Up here is also an idea of what the Kings' home look like. Enjoy.

-----------

The following week end, the two girls had gone to the Kings' home for the big announcement. Angie was excited throughout the journey as if she was the one about to get a baby while Ellie sat quietly barely listening to her friend's constant chatter.

Once they arrived, Ellie stood for a second to look at the house in which she had spent her teenage years. The house itself was the epitome of a real home. It was a pale yellow two-storey building with huge windows to let in the sunlight. There was a veranda big enough to fit an iron table and its four chairs that George painted in white on the right and a two-seater wooden swing on the left.

The garden was neat with freshly cut grass with batches of flowers here and there. They were the pride and joy of Helena. She loved to take care of them as much as her husband loved to tend the lawn. To Ellie, this is what home should look like: welcoming and peaceful.

While walking to the front door, Ellie could not help but to look at her childhood home just beside the Kings' home. It too had that homey aspect on the outside once. But now, now it had no one to fill it with love.

When her parents had died nine years ago, Helena and George had insisted that she keeps it instead of selling it like she had wanted to at the time. They argued that she might want or need it when she grows up, otherwise, she could sell it or put it up for rent. From that day on, a company was paid to take care of the house. It was cleaned and even painted when needed. It looked ready to be inhabited.

Truth be told, Ellie did not want to go in there without her parents. She knew that she would never be able to live there without seeing them at every corner. Her mother cooking and dancing in the kitchen, her father reading the papers in the living room. Laughter filled dinners at the table or the cosy nights they had spent in front of the fireplace, simply enjoying each other's presence.

She can still see her, aged five, running back and forth between the two houses, with Angie not too far behind. Living next to each other, their parents had opted to leave the two lawns joined so that the girls could have a bigger space to play. So, when they had fenced their gardens, it surrounded both the houses and the lawns in the front and back.

Coming back to the present, Ellie followed Angie inside the big house with a smile, lost in her memories. They made their way to the back of the house to the brightly lit kitchen with the yellow wallpaper and wooden furniture.

Helena was in front of the oven making a salad while the smell of her famous shepherd's pie with double cheese wafted around the big kitchen. Even though George was not a fan of cheese, Helena always put the cheese because the girls loved it. Helena's habit of preparing the girls' favourite dishes, always amazed Ellie. It happens even when they don't announce their visit; she always has the food ready for them.
