.Carl.

It was Christmas morning, and everyone was downstairs, but Layla refused to leave my bed. Last night wasn't the first time someone in my family had caught me in a sexual act, but it was the first time Layla had been the other party, and she was mortified.

I sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing her back through the blanket she hid under. "Baby, people in this house fuck and get caught fucking all the time."

She groaned audibly.

I sighed. "It was just Lip. I doubt he said anything to anybody." I smirked. "He probably just wishes he was me."

She turned and flipped the covers down to roll her eyes at me. "I'm supposed to just hang out with Lip today like everything is normal after he saw us having sex?"

"You act like he saw body parts and shit," I laughed. "We were under the covers. He didn't see you naked or anything."

She put her hand over her eyes. "No, but it was pretty obvious that I was getting fucked."

I smirked and leaned down closer to her. "And fucked really good, right?"

I saw her try and fail to hide a grin.

"So be proud of it," I smiled, kissing her before I sat back up. "I sure as shit am."

She sighed and moved to sit up. I went to open the bedroom door.

"Hey Carl?" she asked.

"Yeah?" I replied, turning back toward her as my hand rested on the knob.

She ran her hand through her hair. "What did you mean yesterday about us having Matthew's middle name figured out?"

Oh...that. "I just thought, since you picked his first name, you'd let me pick his middle name," I said nervously.

She smiled. "What do you want it to be?"

I stalled, and she looked at me expectantly. "Nicholas," I finally answered.

"Matthew Nicholas Gallagher," she tried, a grin spreading across her face. "I like that. Why Nicholas?"

I looked down. "Nick was a really good friend of mine, and I miss him."

She looked sad. "Oh Carl," she sighed sympathetically. "Did he die?"

I shook my head. "Nah. Just...went away. I won't see him again for a very long time."

I saw the wheels spinning in her head as she processed what that probably meant. Shit. Well you can bet your ass I'm not telling her what he went away for.

"He had a really tough life," I reasoned before she could say anything. "I was the only person he trusted. He always had my back, and I had his."

She listened and cocked her head to the side. "He meant a lot to you, huh?"

I nodded. "Yeah, he did."

"Well then Nicholas it is," she smiled. "I love it."

I sighed in relief and smiled as I helped her up to hug her. "You are the best," I grinned against her neck, kissing her softly up and down the side of it.

"Ah, Carl," she gasped. "Please...you're going to start something we can't finish right now."

I smiled. "Oh come on, they all know what's up."
