Chapter 1

Athena

     Speed walking, in the middle of the night, not my brightest moment I will admit. I never claimed to be smart, but I had always thought that I would at least have luck on my side! But no the moon goddess decided to abandon me tonight. Not only did my date stand me up, my car broke down, and I have no cell service!!!!!!!
     Ugh my dad is going to kill me. Sure sure most dads are scary but my dad takes the cake of all cakes. He is 6'6 with eyes of steel that can stare into your very soul, he has a way of making me feel guilty before I even admit to anything!!!!! Even if I haven't even done anything!!!!!! Now he isn't all scary, in fact when he isn't starring into your soul he is quite a handsome man. His hair is the color of salt and pepper, and his blue eyes are like gorgeous Alaskan glaciers, that's what my mom says anyways. And he is in better shape then most people half his age! Oh did I forget to mention that he is alpha? Yup, now you see why I am dead.

       My name is Athena, which is quite funny considering she was the Greek goddess of wisdom. At least I wasn't named after something lucky, like clover, or leprechaun, that would just be evil. I am 18 years old, and since I am a werewolf I look better than most humans. My hair is a shiny chocolate color, and I have been told my blue eyes are stunning just like my fathers. But cutting to the chase my brother is a hog.
That's right you heard me. He is 6'3 at 16 and here I am, 18 and I am a total height of 5'2 inches. My mother always laughs when I complain, and tells me that the moon goddess made me this small because if I can fit this much spunk into 5'2 how much more spunk would I have had if I was bigger. Personally I don't believe that a person can ever have too much spunk but that's just me. Oh no I can smell the pack house, I am getting close. Well hello darkness my old friend.

I was able to sneak in through a window and thought I had made it safely into my room when I hear a click. Suddenly the lights in my room turn on and there are my parents. My father looks stern and regal, while my mother looks like she wants to run to me. I happen to glance at my reflection in the mirror, and am surprised that she didn't scream in fright.
My hair has twigs and other whatnot tangled in it, my pretty teal dress is soiled and has a few smudges on it, and my makeup.....well we won't even go there. After a long moment of silence my father breaks the silence my saying
"So how was your date?" Peachy dad just peachy.

Next afternoon

My parents weren't too harsh with me last night. Yes I missed curfew, yes I forgot to check my gas before leaving, and yes I walked through the woods instead of shifting to protect my dress. But they were just happy to have me home safe and sound, my dad didn't even stare into my soul.
      In just a week we will be having a ball for my 19th birthday. It is going to be an elaborate affair. Alphas and their mates are invited from all over the nation to attend. My parents are hoping that my future mate will be there, my father hopes for a strong ally, while my mother hopes for a man who won't take me too far away. But I know that their biggest wish for me is to be happy. Personally I am scared out of my wits. I think that is why I have been going on dates with humans. As the daughter of an alpha it is almost guaranteed that I will have an alpha as a mate, the lowest would be a gamma which is 3rd in command. Now I know many alphas who treat their mates like equals, and treasure them, one of them is my father. If I can have a relationship like my parents I will be happy. But I also know many alpha relationships that don't have happy endings. My best friend is mated to a possessive jerkface who doesn't let her leave his sight. I don't even know the last time I saw Quilla in person. I smirk evilly, because he is an alpha and the mate of my best friend he will be required to attend my party. Suddenly it is worth possibly finding my mate if it means that I will get to see my best friend. With these thoughts in mind, I am suddenly extremely excited for next weeks birthday ball.
