Why Me?

Chapter 18

{Athena}

I decided to humor Quilla and we ended up watching Princess Bride, inconceivable I know. But that's what she wanted to watch.

During the entire movie I noticed Quilla staring at me with fear in her eyes. Yeah I know I look like a monster without makeup ok but I didn't think I looked that bad!

I decided to just ignore her and as soon as the movie ended excused myself. As I made my way up to my room I thought I noticed a shadow following me but that couldn't be. A shadow without someone attached just doesn't happen. Coming to the conclusion that I am hallucinating I flop onto my bed and enter the wonderful world of dreams.

The next morning I trudge down the stairs quite noisily. Adonis the jerk face that he is, sent a guard to wake me up early.

Now I am sitting in a plush brown chair waiting for him in his office. Just as I began to doze he comes strutting in and his gaze hones in on me.

He sits in a chair exactly like the one I'm in directly across from me. I quickly realize that something is up and start to feel my heart beat quicken. What if something had happened to Griffin or my parents or that adorable baby squirrel I found the other day!!?!?!? Don't judge me!!!

      He cleared his throat and said in his deep throaty tone, "Athena, i need you to listen to what I am about to say, and listen carefully. The information I am about to tell you is extremely important and you cannot repeat it to anyone. Not even Quilla. She knows some of what I am about to tell you but not everything. Do you understand?"

        I nodded my head and realized that whatever he was about to tell me was of extreme importance. I could feel myself becoming worried and just prayed to the MoonGoddess that nothing horrible had happened.

       Once Adonis saw my nod he continued, "You are in extreme danger. Lina is part of a group known as the ROFR. They target Luna's. No one knows why certain Luna's get attacked, nor what their name stands for. Recently we learned that you are the next target. Griffin had to behave according to Lina's rules to keep you safe."

      He paused to see the look of horror on my face. I am sure I looked like a fish with the way my mouth was opening and closing. After I few moments I motioned for him to continue.

       "Griffin and I have talked with the elders and devised a plan, one which you will not like hearing but we believe it is the only way. We are going to have Griffin "reject you" as his mate and pretend to have a change of heart and claim Lina."

      My growl stopped him in his tracks. No way was I going to allow this shit plan to happen. So I questioned him.

       "Your plan is for my mate to reject me. Him pretend to love a psycho. He is doing this to protect me, yet I will die from rejection? Great plan!" (Note he sarcasm)

      He rolled his eyes at me before speaking again. "If you had let me finish I would have explained that we are going to put an elixir in him. It is a potion of sorts that will prevent the rejection from going through completely. Your bond won't disappear when he "rejects you" but it will be subdued."

        This whole plan still had me worried. I was contemplating everything I had just heard when I saw something move among the bookshelf on the wall.

      I glared hard at Adonis and frantically nodded my head toward the bookshelf.

        After looking at me weirdly, Adonis finally got the hint and turned towards the bookshelf.

         We both watched as a black shadow of some sort moved between the books. Adonis and I moved slowly toward the books the shadow had seemingly disappeared into.

      Adonis held up 3 if fingers counted down before pulling out the book!

       Adonis stood with his eyes wide, while I screamed.

      There in front of us was a coal black shadow. But the terrifying thing about this shadow was the the bright red eye glinting with mischief. It blinked at us and if an eye could smirk I would say that is what it did. Right before it and the rest of the shadow vanished. Leaving the letters ROFR written in blood on the shelf.

       {Griffin}

         I don't know if it was the oatmeal I had for breakfast or if I was paranoid, but something. Didn't seem right. I couldn't stop thinking about Athena and that something was very wrong. I knew Adonis was going to tell her the plan and that he would protect her at all cost but something seemed off. I also couldn't shake the fact that i felt like I was constantly being watched.

    I know I have been gone for a while but college has had my life a roller coaster! I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter! It was a bit shorter than usual but full of an interesting twist! What do you think of it so far? And what do you thing ROFR stands for? I will try to update again soon but I do have finals coming up. Once Christmas break arrives I will definitely update more!
