Why Me?

Chapter 14

{Athena}

       As I walked into the dining hall I felt the eyes of every packmember on me. I noticed the females were looking at me with anger and envy as their mates stared unashamed at me. If looks could kill I would be gone, it didn't help that I hadn't made friends with any of the she wolves. They avoided me like the plague for some reason.

       As I reached the main table I couldn't help but be hurt over the fact that Lina sat in my position next the Griffin. And no matter how stunning I looked Lina looked even better.

        She wore a stunning red velvet dress. And even though velvet could be considered outdated and old fashioned, on Lina it looked to be in its prime. It wasn't even a pale timid red, no this was blood red, and it matched the look of blood lust in her eyes. Eyes that were glinting right at me.

     I took a deep breath before walking straight up to the smirking Lina and jerked her by the hair and tossed her to the floor.

       Everything seemed to stop, even time itself. Lina stood frozen in shock, while Griffin stood gaping at the frozen Lina. For a second I thought I saw pride on his face, but then it was quickly covered up by a look of pure anger directed directly at me.

         He rose from his seat and moved to help Lina up, and stared at me with a look of utter distain. In that moment I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces, and my wolf let out a howl of utter anguish.

    I slowly looked around the room at my packmates. The she wolves were looking at me with triumph in their eyes, while the males kept their heads down like cowards. My mates parents were staring in shock but didn't say a word, not even Lorena. The only one who looked at me with kindness was Griffins grandmother. She stared at me with understanding and I remembered her telling me that she had gone through something similar with her mate.

      With my head held high I walked out of the dining room without looking back. Once out of everyone's sight I quickly made my way to the guest room where I had moved all my belongings. I decided that I wasn't going to stay in a place where it was obvious that I had been replaced. Calling Quilla I quickly made arrangements to leave on a flight to her pack this very night.

     As I was packing I couldn't help but hope that Griffin would come check on me and convince me to stay, or even just show that he cares. Just as I finished packing and was losing hope I heard a knock at the door. My heart beat quickened and hope blossomed in my chest, but as I opened the door instead of my mate Griffin it was Kaiser?

       {Kaiser}

             I'm not going to lie, I didn't like Athena at first, but as I got to know her the past couple of weeks I realized what an amazing wolf she really was. Taking a quick sweep of the room with my eyes I noticed the packed bag, the tissues littering the floor, and the look of pain in Athena's eyes. 

       I was enraged that my sister could cause this, but what angered me more was how my best friend could allow something like this to happen to his mate.

        Griffin and I had been friends since 2nd grade and even though I had a crush on him for the longest time, his mate should be with him. And as I stared at the broken state Athena was in my blood heated. Even if I had wanted to I couldn't stop myself from bringing Athena into my arms and cradling her closely.

          She clung to me and the tears came bursting from her eyes as if the dam had finally broke. I held her for a few moments until she was able to put herself together, then she asked me a question I couldn't refuse.

       "Kaiser can you help me get to the airport without alerting the guards or Griffin?"

       {Athena}

              The ride was silent both Kaiser and I lost in thought. As we drove closer and closer to the airport I couldn't help but wonder if I would ever return to this pack. My wolf whimpered at the thought of never  seeing Griffin again. But even though the bond was strong, because we hadn't mated yet it was bearable.

        I wonder if Griffin purposely delayed the mating ceremony til Lina came. Maybe he wanted to make sure that it was me and not Lina that his heart truly desired.

        When the airport finally came in view I waited until the car came to a stop before hopping out and gathering my bags. I hugged Kaiser one last time and thanked him for everything he had done.

      After going through security and getting lost only once, I boarded the plane that would take me to my best friend, and away from the love of my life.

         Sorry I was so late this week guys, I was sick all weekend and trying to keep up with classes while sick is not fun. Now that we know that Kaiser is good who do you think the mystery wolf is? Or could it be more than one wolf?  And what is up with Griffin? Give me your opinions on what you think will happen. I will try to update again at the beginning of next week.
