Chapter 17

        {Griffin}

            I hear Lina screeching again and it takes all my patience not to stuff a dirty sock in that mouth of hers. I gripped the table so hard my knuckles started turning white. My wolf was antsy, it didn't like having this annoying female in the place of our mate.

Athena, oh how I missed her. Thoughts of her made me resent Lina even more, for it was because of her I couldn't be with my mate. Taking deep breathes, I tried to calm myself down before I slaughtered her. I closed my eyes and breathed deep, by the time I opened them the bitch was staring at me with a look of triumph on her face.

       "Remember alpha with just a snap of my fingers I can have her dead. All it takes is one little snap and she leaves this earth." She smirks at me with a devilish smile.

      Goddess she is crazy. I reign in my wolf knowing that keeping it together is the only thing saving my mate.

       My father and I found out that Lina joined forces with an unknown group who have been targeting Lunas. Apparently word leaked out that I had found my mate and Athena's name was at risk of being added to the list.

      My mother and father agreed it was best to keep from marking her until we could figure out how this group operated. They were silent and deadly, and left without a trace. No scent, no tracks, they just vanished. Leaving their victims slaughtered in a pool of blood. The only clue to knowing who they were is the letters, "ROFR". Every Luna that was killed had these letters carved into their flesh.

       These attacks were being kept secret from the lower ranking pack members. Only alphas were informed and a few choice betas. The council has been working to figure out what could make certain Luna's targets.

     As for the  alphas who lost their mates, most went insane shifting and were never heard from again. It left packs vulnerable and slowly packs were disappearing.

       I refused to allow this to happen. I knew Lina was the key. It happened when my father noticed a tatto of "ROFR" on her ankle 2 years ago. Immediately we knew she was apart of this mysterious group. We tried to keep this information secret but somehow she caught on that we knew.

        She cornered my mother and promised that if the council was informed about her allegiance to the mysterious group my mother would be next.

       My mother was shook up and that was all the information she got out before she collapsed. Some kind of poison that no one had ever seen before had been injected into her system.

      She barely survived but any mention of Lina had her shaking in fear.

      During the scramble to heal my mother Lina had disappeared and we were hoping that she was gone for good until she appeared again. Only a few weeks after I had found my mate. Father and I knew it couldn't be coincidence.

      My mother is stronger now but she is still petrified of Lina. She has clammed up into a shell the woman she once was. Hiding in my parents room most of the time, pacing and rocking herself barely eating anything.

     And my poor mate. My lovely Athena. I have been distancing myself from her. Lina is a jealous she wolf. And I know that one wrong move and Athena is as good as killed. Something my wolf and I refuse to let happen. Just the thought of life without her makes me want to destroy everything in my path.

     I take a deep breathe and face the she wolf responsible for all my issues. She looks at me with an innocent smile and i nearly gag.

      I keep chanting in my head. "Have faith in Adonis. Adonis will keep her safe and help me fight to find this mysterious group."

   {Athena}

       It's been a week and I don't know how Adonis hasn't killed me yet!!!!!!!!!

After Quilla quit ignoring him he was happy. BUT. Yes there is a but. My stupid best friend decided that I was too glum and wants to take me to a resort where I can find sexy males. Her words not mine.

Yeah Adonis isn't exactly jumping for joy.

Another interesting thing that happened was every single suitcase in the pack house disappeared. There was also now a giant bonfire happening in the back yard happening. Weird.

I was laying on my bed counting the specks on the ceiling when I heard footsteps approaching.

Quilla's head soon appeared in the doorway, and no she didn't knock. I was about to tease her until I noticed the somber expression on her face.

Immediately I sat up knowing something was very wrong with my normally exuberant best friend.

{Quilla}
(Earlier that day)

I stared at my mate in shock. My head was spinning and my thoughts were darting in all different directions.

My best friend risked being killed because of some psycho, jealous bitch and I wasn't allowed to tell her?!?!???

"WHY WOULD YOU TELL ME THIS ADONIS!!!!! YOU KNOW I HAVE A BIG MOUTH. HOW I AM I GOING TO KEEP FROM SPILLING THE BEANS!!!!!!"

He looked at me with a serious expression and said so quietly I almost didn't hear, "because if you don't Athena dies."

It it me then how serious this situation was. I choked on a sob and almost immediately I felt the warmth of my mates embrace.

I don't know how long I cried but the whole time I felt my mates loving embrace as he rocked me and mourned with me. He listened to be cry and held me up when I lost the strength to stand.

Once I finished blubbering I looked up with teary eyes at the love of my life's face. I placed one hand on his cheek and stared at him with so much love and trust. His grip on my waist tightened as he held my gaze. An unspoken promise passed between us.

I knew he would do everything in his power that he could to protect Athena. And I trusted him with my entire being to fulfill that promise to me.

And I knew that no matter what happened he would be my rock. I loved him with all my being and we were going to save my best friend.

(Present time, still Quilla)

I stood facing my best friend. I couldn't even muster a smile. Athena was looking at me with concern on her face. I knew I had to come up with something so she didn't get suspicious.

I cant help but blurt out the first thing that comes to mind "I just got my period do you want to watch a movie with me." Seriously Quilla that is the best you can do. I want to face palm myself!

Hey guys I know I am really late with this update and I apologize. I took a trip this past week and thought I would have more time to write. Alas that was not the case but I tried to make it up to you guys by doing a longer chapter. What do you think of the plot? Could you all understand? It was a bit rushed and if you are having issues understanding please let me know so I can fix it! My next update will probably be sometime next weekend.
