Why else would someone say it
If not to crush the spirits of others?

Who often feel joy in life.
Why else would someone say it
If not to raise the spirits of others?
On a bad day,
When no one is there
To pick you up
Or bring you down,
Which would you rather hear?
Would you repeat the one
That brings thunderclouds
To your already darkened sky?
Or would you repeat the one
That brings a ray of sunshine
Splitting through the gloomy fog?
No matter how much of an annoyance
Optimism can be,
Deep down, you know you prefer
The smile that it brings.
