An award doesn't make you
Who you are.
Sure it would be a nice sense of accomplishment,
And it'd be something to make your folks proud,
But does it really hold any meaning?
Brilliant kids,
Shamed and distraught,
Because they didn't get top mark.
Amazing sports players,
Disappointed and kicking themselves,
Because they weren't the MVP.
Shiny trophies,
Neat certificates,
Gold medals,
And cool plaques
Engraved with your name
Aren't the definition
Of your capabilities.
The only thing
That defines you
Is yourself.
