Temptation

Many things in life
Can be considered tempting
At one point or another.

Most of the time,
You might laugh at the idea,
Claiming you'd never be so careless,
Thinking you'd never be so thoughtless.

And yet,
When a certain occasion arrives,
There's nothing you'd rather do,
Because it may seem like the only viable option.

But no matter how good,
Or even beneficial,
The prospect may seem,
The only way to move on
Is to resist the urge.

Know that things are better
As you come to the realization
To not give into temptation,
For very rarely are you the only one
Who ends up being affected by your situation.

This can be taken in a multitude of ways.

For me, it means withholding my feelings, so as to not hurt someone.

For my brother, it means being careful with his alcohol consumption, so as to not give our mom a heart attack again.

For a friend, it may even mean choosing not to commit suicide.

You choose what it means for you.
