Kayfabe

I walked back into my shared hotel room, and shut the door carefully behind me, afraid I would wake someone and then have to explain where I'd been. Which was something I most certainly didn't wanna do.

You see, I was a member of what is arguably the most controversial, and infamous stable in professional wrestling.

Otherwise known as The Bullet Club.

And, as most people know, Adam Cole was a member of said stable. But, all good things must come to an end unfortunately.

However, just because Adam's time with Bullet Club ended, didn't mean that my relationship with him had.

So, that's why I was sneaking back into my hotel room, hoping not to wake Kenny Omega, my roommate for the night, because I didn't want a lecture about how I was 'breaking kayfabe'.

Ugh, I'd heard that lecture so many times, from him, Matt and Nick, or even Cody would occasionally say something regarding it. The only member who never really bothered me with it was Marty.

I don't know why he never said anything, maybe because he thought it was dumb of them to expect me not to see Adam, or maybe because he honestly just didn't care. Either way, I was thankful for his silence.

I made my way back to my bed in almost complete darkness and assumed I was in the clear.

Until I heard Kenny sigh that is.

He turned on his lamp, and I refused to look at him as I pretended to be asleep. Kenny rolled his eyes and let out a scoff.

"Y/N, you're clearly not asleep."

I still said nothing. My clock read 3am, and I hadn't had an ounce of sleep, and there was no way I was having this stupid argument again, especially not right now.

"Fine. Don't say anything. But I will bring this up again later." He stated, a groggy tone in his voice before he shut off the lights.

At least that gave me a few decent hours of sleep.

The next morning we met up with The Bucks, Cody, and Marty for coffee. Kenny had been pretty quiet for the most part. He hadn't mentioned last night at all, to me anyway, he could've already said something to the others. In fact, he was probably waiting to be around them before he brought it up.

Because if you're gonna argue with someone, you should have back up right?

As soon as I took a seat all eyes were on me. I let out an annoyed sigh and rolled my tired eyes.

"What?"

I asked dryly. Nick threw his hands up in defense. "We didn't say anything!"

I took a sip of coffee and scoffed slightly. "Look, I'm exhausted, so if you guys wanna say something then do it. Otherwise, stop staring at me, or I might gouge out your eyes." I replied.

I know that was a bit far, but I was running on less than three hours of sleep. So, I was bound to be a bit cranky, who wouldn't be? They all shared a small laugh, well, except for Marty, who just continued to drink his coffee, and trying to stay out of the argument.

Who knew he'd become my favorite?

"Well...someone sounds a bit tired. I wonder why that is. Didn't you get enough sleep? Or..did something else come up?" Cody asked, a sarcastic tone in his voice.

I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes.

"Yeah! But what could she have been doing other than sleeping?" Matt added, a smirk on his face.

"I'm gonna guess the thing you were doing, was Adam Cole?" Nick added, earning a laugh from Kenny, who was about to add a joke of his own. But then he was cut off, and to everyone's surprise, Marty's the one that cut him off.

"Okay..so if you're mad at her for 'breaking kayfabe' then why talk about the relationship in a public place? At least she's trying to keep it private. You guys are the ones mentioning it everywhere we go.." He stated.

Their smirks dropped, and thankfully that shut them all up.

"Thanks Marty." I smiled. He smiled in response, and nodded.

Later that day, we hit the gym. And I decided to properly thank Marty for what he did earlier. And, maybe find out why he did it.

The other guys left a little early, leaving just me and Marty. I touched his bicep to get his attention. His muscles tightened under my touch, almost as though I made him nervous, but that's a ridiculous thought, right?

"Hey, I just wanted to say I really appreciate what you did earlier. I love those guys, but they never know when to shut up." I chuckled, he smiled at me.

"No worries Y/N." He started, but then his smile faded. I furrowed my brows.

"What is it?"

He shook his head, and tried to convince me it was nothing as he wore a fake smile.

"Marty, we're friends now. Just tell me." I chuckled as I crossed my arms.

He opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by a fan with a camera.

"Holy sh*t! You're Y/N, and Marty Scurll! Can I get a picture of the two of you?" He asked. Marty looked almost relieved that the fan had interrupted our conversation, as he accepted their request.

He draped his arm around me, and we smiled as we 'too sweeted' each other. The fan thanked us and left. Marty didn't mention our conversation again.

That night, I went to see Adam. But, he wasn't as happy to see me as he usually would be. I asked him what was wrong, and he held up his phone to show me the picture of me and Marty.

"Yeah? So? It's just a picture of me and Marty. What's the big deal?" I asked. He rolled his eyes and scoffed.

"The big deal is, that we kept our relationship secret, and now, every single Bullet Club fan there is, thinks you're banging Scurll."
He replied, an annoyed and hurt tone in his voice.

I just hope things can't get any worse.
