Jonah's POV
8 hours later-

We all sat in the waiting room, waiting for any news from the doctor. When we arrived to the hospital, they rushed Karen to the ER because she was losing a lot of blood and they needed to take the bullet out. Of course, the nurses told me to wait out here. Shortly after we arrived, the rest of our friends joined us and Karen's parents. Jacky had a huge bandage around her hand since she got hit with the first bottle that Mark threw. All of our eyes were puffy and red. Jacky was resting her head on Corbyn's shoulder. Tears ran down her cheek. I sighed as nurses and doctors and other ill patients and their families rushed past us. It felt like years have gone by since the last time we saw Karen. At last, we heard footsteps approaching. I was the first to look up. The doctor gave me a small smile.
"Friends and Family of Ms.Karen Garcia?"
We all stood up and nodded.
"I would like to inform you that after hours of surgery. We finally took the bullet out. Although, she might have a headache when she wakes up because she hit her head when she hit the ground. Ms.Garcia is fine. No fractured skull or bones. We would like to keep her for a day or two to recover from the surgery. If you would like, two of you at a time can see her for a few minutes. Her room is in the third floor. The room number is 3215"
"I'll go last." I said, sitting back down. Karen's parents went first.  Jacky and Corbyn went second. After a while, they came back and Jeylin and Daniel went in. After them, Jack and Zach went in. I tapped my foot anxiously.
"Jonah we are all going to the cafeteria to get coffee want to join us?" Daniel asked. I shook my head. Daniel frowned. He knew I loved coffee. He knew I would never reject it but right now I wasn't really in the mood to drink coffee or to eat anything.
"She's awake!" Zach said, jogging toward us. Jack behind him.
"Its your turn man. Good Luck" Jack said, giving me a pat on the back. I walked down the hall and into the elevator area. I clicked on the third floor. I bit my lip anxiously. It was a habit. As soon as the elevator door opened, I stepped out.  Her room number was 3215. I grew more anxious as I passed each room. I didn't know what I was going to say to her. I didn't know how I was going to react. Was I going to scream at her because she jumped in front of me?
3212.... 3213...3214....3215
I stood in front of the door, frozen.
"Excuse me" a nurse said, walking past me with a wheelchair.
"Oh sorry m'am" I said and grabbed the door handle. I pushed the door open and there she was, laying on the hospital  bed, eating apple sauce. She looked like a mess. A hot one. A small tv was hanging in the wall in front of her. The theme song of Spongebob started playing.
    Are you ready, kids?
"Aye aye captain."
She didn't notice that I was standing in the room.
I cant hear you?
"Aye aye captain"
I smiled. She was so cute even after everything that had happened. I cleared my throat. She looked up. Her gorgeous brown eyes stared back at me. She gave me a weak smile.
"Oh Jonah....no I wasnt singing.. I mean hey" she replied, turning the volume down.
"Hey how are you doing?" I said, smirking. I walked over and sat on a chair next to her bed.
"Im okay."
"Im glad that you're okay." I reached out for her hand and squeezed it. A few moments passed and I finally decided it was time to ask her what I was dying to ask.
"Why did you do it?"
She twirled her spoon around her now empty cup of apple sauce. I watched her as she licked her lips.
"I did it because you mean a lot to me. You're a great friend Jonah and I would do it to any friend I had"
Ouch. Friendzoned.
"Karen I dont want to be just your friend. I want to be m-"
"Times up" Karen's doctor interrupted. I stood up.
"I'll be waiting downstairs if you need anything." I said.
"Jonah?.." Karen called but I was already out the door.
