Chapter 4: “The Past”

I turned and ran towards the door. But he was faster, he catches my arm in a firm grip and said, “I’m sorry.”

-

Let me tell you a bit of my past, last 2 months, I joined a summer camp in Florida. I was having an amazing time when suddenly I met this special person, Minwoo. He was a kind, sweet, cute and flawless guy that was also in my summer camp. And what led us closer was that, we were in the same group. We shared stories about our past, he helped me at hard times and he was always there. I had a special feeling for him in the end and we confessed our true feelings on the last day of the summer camp. Precisely, we had a relationship about a month, until he said he cannot bear a long distance relationship as I was in (the country where you’re from) and Minwoo was from South Korea. We broke up leaving nothing but memories.

-

He looked at me with his painful eyes, “I didn’t mean that YN. I just couldn’t stand a long distance relationship.” He walked towards me slowly, still clutching my arm. I moved backwards until my back hit against the glass door. Minwoo releases his grip and hits one of his arms against the glass door. His face was still the same, he still had dark raven eyes, a straight-edged nose, and thin lips. He leaned closer to my ear, “I’ve missed you. You’ve changed. Just get ready for class.” His left hand touched my shoulder just like what he did when we were together. He sighed, released his hand and left the classroom. I was all alone. I held back my tears.

Now the Boyfriend members I knew was, Youngmin/Kwangmin, Jeongmin and Minwoo. There were 3. I shaked my head, “How many more members are there..”

I changed my clothes into a simple baby blue hoodie, a pair of black loose leggings with pockets and a grey beanie with the word ‘DOPE’ written on it. I grabbed my golden addidas sneakers and head for dancing class. I learned carefully on particular dancing steps and just realised that Minwoo was a really good dancer. It didn’t take long ‘til we finish and I was all sweating. As soon as the class ended, Minwoo asked for my phone number and told me to dial him whenever I need help. I nodded and head off to my next class which was sports class.

I jogged towards the field with my sport clothes.

The sun was shining brightly and I blocked my eyes with my sweaty palms. It was 30 minutes past noon. I sat down on a wooden bench waiting for the teacher’s assistant to come in. After a while, a person in his early twenties came in. He had a well-muscled body and a lily-white skin. His sooty hair was rather tangled in many directions and he had an angular chin. His eyes were squinted as he pressed his lips together, bringing a basketball in one hand. He noticed the class and waved.

“Hello all, my name is Hyunseong and we’ll play basketball today.”

The class was divided into 2 groups. We played well. I missed basketball so much. I scored a 3-point shoot and did a lay-up before the class ended. “Wow, great job YN.” People were complimenting me until the 2nd break bell rang. It was lunch time. Hyunseong touched me by the shoulder,

“You’re the one that did the makeover right?”

“Yes. That was me, how’d you know?”

“Jeongmin told me. You’re good at basketball by the way.” Hyunseong waved goodbye.

I decided to grab some milk for lunch because I had a heavy snack before. I scanned the canteen to find Catherine by chance, but she was not there. Neither was Youngmin. I spent the whole lunch break thinking about the Boyfriend members. How close to perfection they are. Are they?

My last class was English and I decided to head to English class as I didn’t eat lunch. On my way there, a few girls were whispering about another Boyfriend member joining English class called Donghyun. I was so confused and curious. So all my classes had each Boyfriend member. HOW LUCKIER CAN I BE HEHE.

Just as the class starts, a russet-haired guy came in. I was guessing it was Donghyun. His hair was reddish-brown. He must have dyed it. He had big light hazel eyes and an aquiline nose. He introduced himself as Donghyun, I guessed correctly. He was a very down-to-earth person yet attractive. He teaches patiently as he answers all questions with a smile. I liked how kind he is, I didn’t know popular people could act this way. Ha. The bell rang shortly after he gave us the homework, but the thing is, he was rather shy. He gave me a glance and gestured me to come to his desk.

“Yes?” I asked.

You’re the one Youngmin talked about. What’s the bond between you two?” He laughed.

“Nothing. He’s just my senior” I laughed back.

“Oh, you look very diligent too, I hope you look forward to my class.” Donghyun smiled.

I thanked him and walked out of the class. Youngmin was talking about me? I didn’t know. I let my cheeks flash in a bright pink colour.

The day ended faster than I thought. I went home and thought about those 5 charismatic boys in school and made a list.

Youngmin/Kwangmin – Singing class

Youngmin/Kwangmin – Acting class

Jeongmin – Makeover class

Minwoo – Dance class

Hyunseong – Sports class

Donghyun – English class

“Not bad for the first day.” I thought.

2 weeks passed by and I got closer to all Boyfriend members. But I still noticed something weird about Youngmin/Kwangmin.

-The 3rd week-

Everthing went well and I got a stronger bond with Youngmin. Every Monday, Youngmin arranged an additional class for only me, to stay up until 3 to practice my vocals. It was just a lesson between the two of us and I know I have to take the opportunity to practice and grow a stronger bond with him.

And today is Monday. I was excited and nervous at the same time. It was going to be my first time on being alone with Youngmin. I hope I wouldn’t mess up. I daydreamed in the entire singing class until the bell rang.

I sighed as I stepped outside the singing class. “YN!” Somone called. I turned and saw Youngmin. “You’re coming to the additional class today right?”

“Yes. I think I can.” I squeaked.

He touched my shoulders softly, “Relax, it’s going to be fine.”

“I guess.” I sighed.

I head towards the acting class and waited for Youngmin to appear. In the hallway, a figure appeared. He was wearing a V-neck raven shirt and he waved as he came nearer. As I expected, the other version of Youngmin. I noticed that Youngmin/Kwangmin had a habit of changing clothes a bit too quickly. I never had the chance to ask why but it just seemed a bit weird.

“Hey YN.” Youngmin smirked.

I had a strange feeling about him. In singing class, he was a bit more quiet, softer and kinder. But, in acting class, he acted more talkative and playful. So I tried questioning him.

“Youngmin oppa, How did y-.”

He looked offended as I mentioned Youngmin’s name.

He frowned and pressed his fingers on my lips. “Call me Kwangmin during acting class. I like it better that way.”  He gestured his hand, “Come on let’s get in.”

“Okay.” I was confused. Judging from Kwangmin’s expression, I felt like there was something he was hiding away from me. I know there is something, but I couldn’t tell what. “
