Melody
Being on a set could be a little chaotic. Not the bad kind where nobody knows what's going on and everything is a mess, but the kind where there's limited time, and everyone's rushing to perfectly execute their jobs within that time frame. People were busy and they were bustling around each other to get it done. The photographer and director, the makeup artists and wardrobe people, the models, the people who were helping out on set – everyone in a hurry to beat the clock.
The makeup brushes swept a new face across mine and the clothes I slipped into pulled the look together. A pair of shoes and some accessories later, I was standing in front of some people who expected me to nail down the look that they had in mind. I shifted through some poses that I had done in my go-see through micro movements, adjusting slightly so that with every click of the camera, I hopefully I had a great shot.
Before I knew it, my shots were over for the day, and I was set to go home and rest so I could do it all again tomorrow.
I explained all this to Carson while lounging on his soft brown couch on Tuesday evening. I wouldn't necessarily call it lounging as it implies lying across it lazily and comfortably. Considering it was my third time at his house, I settled for a comfy yet respectable position of having my legs crossed.
Carson on the other hand was sprawled on his back, one leg on the couch, one foot on the floor. I sat by his feet, hugging a pillow to my chest, resting my chin on it. I watched his face light up as I spoke, his honey brown eyes turning my insides to liquid when they met mine.
I was still in a full face of makeup but settled with a comfortable oversized striped shirt and black leggings. Carson was relaxed in a navy hoodie, and black sweatpants.
"Okay, but that's a quick gloss-over. I want a play-by-play of your day! How does the posing work?" Carson asked.
"You just do it." It came out a little more pretentious than I meant it, and I felt my face flush. "Um, I mean like, the only way to do it, is to do it. You have to take pictures pose in the mirror, know which angles are better for you. Practice. Like in basketball, right? You practice so you can get those slam dunk thingies!"
Carson was nodding along until my last sentence. "Sorry, did you just say, 'slam dunk thingies'?"
Both hands raised in defense, I said, "I think your face post-door would agree that sports and I wouldn't make a great combo."
"Yes, your theoretical teammates thank you for saving them from mental and physical scarring," Carson replied. I threw the pillow in my lap at him, hitting him square in the face. Carson's hearty laughter filled the room as he sat up and threw the pillow back at me. Giggling, I threw it back, starting an official pillow fight. I grabbed the pillow from behind me and used it to block the pillow Carson sent flying my way. I jumped up from the couch, Carson doing the same before chasing behind me. We ran in circles around it before he stopped, waiting for me to run right to him. Instead, I froze behind the sofa, waiting for Carson's face to indicate which way he was going. If I stepped one way, he followed towards me.
I threw the pillow right at him and tried to run past the couch maybe to get behind the coffee table. Somehow, I tripped on the way around it and landed on the white carpet.
"Oh! Melody are you okay?" Carson asked rushing around to me. I waited until he came closer to me.
"Mhm, could you just help me up?" I asked widening my eyes slightly. Carson extended a hand, but his arm tensed as I tried to be sneaky and pull him down to the ground. Instead, he trapped me against him and used the other tickle me. Shrill involuntary laughter escaped my lips as his fingers danced against my stomach.
"Gotchya," Carson laughed letting me squirm and wiggle until he let me out.
I flopped on to the couch and stuck my tongue out at Carson. "You're the worst," I said catching my breath.
"I don't think you think so," Carson said sitting down next to me. A challenge.
"Maybe I do," I said leaning towards him. My heart was beating hard in my chest, feeling the change in mood. His eyes left my mine and stopped at my lips, making my cheeks heat.
"I bet I can change that," Carson replied, leaning towards me. It was softer, sounding a little distracted.
"Doubtful," I teased as his lips brushed against mine.
I pressed my lips harder to his, and I could feel his mouth curve up into a smile. Slowly, his hand reached up and held my cheek. It was so soft it made my heart flutter like curtains in the breeze. I put a hand on Carson's shoulder delicately, feeling almost comfortable enough to explore.
His mouth parted slightly, allowing him to trace my lips with his tongue. My mouth responded by parting as well, both with happy surprise and with the curiosity of knowing what the feeling of it might really be like. As his tongue glided along mine, my hand slid down to his chest, pulling him by the shirt towards me.
The hand Carson had on my cheek, tangled itself in my hair and I was pressed against the arm of sofa. Cloud nine couldn't even begin to describe the level of elation I felt in this moment. After a couple of minutes, Carson pulled away, chuckling at the frown my face had managed to slip into. Tenderly, he pressed his lips to mine once again and then a smirk made its way onto his face.
"Gotchya," he repeated as my facial expression told him I'd changed my mind. Once again, my cheeks felt hot.
