'(Y/n), where are we going? I don't think we're allowed to be-'
'Shut up, you sissy prick!' I retaliated, tightening my grip on my best friend's hand as I yanked him from down from the fence I had forced him to climb over. He allowed me to drag him onwards, still unaware of where I was taking him. He awkwardly flicked his blonde fringe from in front of his eyes before speaking again.
'Just tell me where we're going.' I finally saw the stage lights. Chris didn't seem to notice, or at least not thinking much of it until I pushed past the few broken fences and dragged him onto the outdoor stage. It was famous around our town and some of Chris' idols had played there, so it gave me the idea to sneak in. 'Why're we here?'
'You,' I started, pulling him onto the stage and finally letting go of him, 'are going to sing me a song.'
'What? What, no! No! No way! (Y/n), no!' He nervously swung back and forth on his feet as I hooked my fingers around the spotlight, tilting it away from the sky and over to Chris so he was the centre of everything.
'You're singing me a song so shut up and do it!' I snickered, sitting down in a spot that was off to the side, eyes glued to him.
'(Y/n), I can't do it...I'm a guitarist, I can't sing.'
'You're entering that goddamn talent show and you're going to play guitar and sing and you're going to win and use your prize money to take me somewhere nice! Now shut up and do it!'
'What do I even sing?' He placed his hands on his hips, turning over to me and giving me a sassy stare.
'Song our song!'
'What? No, I'm not-'
'Sing our goddamn song, Chris!' He sighed deeply, a gentle smile spreading across his lips before turning back over to the thousands of empty seats. 'Hold on,' I stopped him, getting up from my spot and hopping off of the stage. I ran over to one of the empty seats that sat in the centre of the arena, sitting down. I stared up at him, excitedly clapping my hands before continuing. 'Okay, perfect. It's just me, alright? Now go! Do it!'
'Alright, alright...' he took another breath before letting his dark brown eyes wander over to mine. 'I'm waking up at the start of the end of the world, but its feeling just like every other morning before. Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone, the cars are moving like a half a mile an hour and I started staring at the passengers who're waving goodbye. Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?' I honestly loved hearing Chris sing. I knew he always imagined himself being a guitarist when he grew up, but I always got the feeling that he'd do something more than that. Whenever I thought about him when he was grown up, I thought about him being the kind of person that people moved out of the way for. He'd always be the centre of attention. 'But I believe the world is burning to the ground. Oh well, I guess we're gonna find out. Let's see how far we've come. Let's see how far we've come. Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend, let's see how far we've come! Let's see how far we've come!' Awh, he was getting into it at that point. Of course, it was probably because he was closing his eyes again. He had a habit of doing that, although it made him look strangely angelic. The way the spotlight seemed to make his porcelain skin glow always managed to remind me why I loved him- even if I couldn't tell him. I didn't even realise it, but after the chorus, he let his voice ring out and stared down at me while I zoned out. 'You're such a dick.'
I snapped out of my thoughts when he placed his hands on his hips, thumbs subtly fidgeting with the belt loops on his black skinny jeans. 'Shut up. You did great.'
'It was boring. You zoned out immediately!'
'I didn't zone out, I was captivated by how perfect you sounded! You're going to do fine! Stop worrying!'
'I'll stop worrying when everybody who picks on me burns in a fire so that they can't watch me preform.' He sighed, sitting down on the edge of the stage as I got up from my seat and hopped up beside him. I absolutely hated seeing him frown, but I knew what he was feeling. 'I don't know if I can even do it...I mean, everybody who hates me is going to be there.'
'And so will the people who love you...'
'Which is no one...' I wrapped my arm around his shoulders, trying my best to comfort him.
'There's your parents...'
'They're too busy arguing to make it. I know they're gonna bail on me.'
'Well, there's no way I'm gonna bail on you, alright? Even when you're super famous and flying across the world to fuck bitches, I'm gonna be around just to cock-block you!'
'You wouldn't let any one else get close to me.'
'Damn right I won't.'
