Of course I couldn't tell her what I did for a living.
Not when the bodies I bury lay a foundation of where I am today.
'W-What're you doing? R-Ricky? I-I thought we were friends!' I plopped myself down Mark's back, the heels of my boots crushing his elbows so that he couldn't get up. I ran my fingertips up his back causing him to shiver before I curled them in his sweat-drenched black hair.
'Orders are orders. Who am I to oppose the word of the man who pays my bills?'
'B-But what about Cindy? S-She'll grow up without h-her dad!'
'She's your daughter, not mine.' I flicked my inky black locks from my eyes before tilting his head back, taking in the sight of blood pouring from between his lips and the tears staining his cheeks.
'P-Plea-'
Before he could finish his plea, I smashed his head against the tiles. His legs twitched as I did it again.
And again.
And again.
His body laid limp below me, giving me a moment of relief before I began to clean up.
I could never tell her about what I did for a living.Of course I couldn't tell him what I did to survive.
Not when the bullets I fired pierced the skulls of my enemies.
'C'mon...' I muttered, slowing my breath so the scope didn't shake as I took aim. I could see his old, wrinkled face as he leaned over some skimpy woman in a tight cocktail dress, obviously trying to get with her. She complied, running her finger across his jaw and forcing him to keep his head still as she flirted with him. I held my breath, pulling the trigger of my sniper rifle and feeling my heart pound loudly in my chest as the bullet struck him in his temple, killing him instantly. Immediately, I ducked below my cover and began disassembling my gun before laying it back in its case and scrambling off from the rooftop I was stationed on top of. I clutched the handle of my gun case tightly, hoping nobody questioned me carrying a briefcase whilst wearing normal clothes. It was slightly suspicious but nobody even looked at me as I hurried downstairs and out the large automatic doors. I briskly walked from the building to my car which was a few blocks away. The moment I got in my car, I practically died on the seat. I took a deep breath, calming my nerves before reaching into my pocket and checking the time.

'Shit...' I muttered, remembering I had to pick Ricky up from his friend's place. I shut my eyes, feeling my heart pound in my chest before starting up my car and making my way to the address he gave me.
I could never tell him about the life I've lived.
