We both walked into the hall of the main building where the opening ceremony would be held. This place was huge with windows from floor to the ceiling on two of the walls. From one side you could see the training grounds and from the other the close forest I will make sure to check later. The rows of wooden chairs were made into two columns with a wide path going between them. It looked like you could seat about 300 students here. And that's a lot since the population of our island is only 5000, but at the same time the whole school couldn't be seated here. I think this hall can hold only one year at most since the school has about 600 students. Which means that a lot of people by time start to drop out..
There weren't many people here as I had thought. We do still have half an hour till the start so no wonder.
"So..." I slowly started my question "Where are we going to sit?"
"There?" She pointed to the third row seats closer to the windows. Great choice Joreid. If I will get bored I will at least be able to check out where we will be training and if I'll be lucky maybe I'll even see some action. I nodded my head in response and we slowly made our way towards the seats.
While we were waiting for the ceremony to start we decided to get to know each other a bit more. The simple stuff for now. Favorite colors - mine is black and hers was white. Favorite animal - duh... dragons. Favorite food - for me ice cream, her roasted deer. Brothers/ sisters - I have an older brother who I haven't seen since he went to Norway to study there, he's twenty-three. Joreid as she said has an older brother who is ending the Academy this year, he's twenty-one, and a younger sister who is 6 years old. How old we are - As we found out she is younger than me which was surprising to me since it doesn't feel that way. I'm we're both seventeen but she was born a year before which means that she already had her birthday and she turned seventeen but I only yet have to have mine to turn eighteen. But she said she got accepted so early only because her mother convinced the headmaster for her to start now while her brother still is here to take care of her for the first and unknown year. Or something like that. (You can start the Academy only if you turn eighteen the year you start.)
We continued to talk on and on so much we hadn't even noticed how the hall time by time got fuller and fuller. At some point of our conversation I noticed that there weren't only a few people here and decided to check the time. It's five minutes till the start. No wonder almost everyone is here. But still - it's only five minutes and they are here only now? People don't you know to come early? Five minutes is basically the same as late. Idiots. And they want to learn here. Tsk.
A woman in her forties walked in. She doesn't look like a trainer or teacher due to her black office style outfit with black stilettos. I looked at my black watch again and saw that it was 8:58 now. Whoever is late better come in. She doesn't look like that type of person who would be happy with someone interrupting her speech. I wonder who she is.
The mysterious woman finally was at the front and made her way onto the stage and with a strong and loud voice started "Good morning my dear students. My name is Mrs. Ingimardottin but you can just call me Ingeltore. I am the headmaster of this Academy." So that's who she was. No wonder she looked intimidating. Just as I imagined the Dragon Academy headmaster to be.
"Today we have gathered here because this day is a new start to the new semester with a whole new two-hundred and fifty students. Hundred and twenty-five girls and hundred and twenty-five boys ready to study dragons in every way. Hundred and fifty of you took classes to learn how to become a dragon rider but half of you will probably drop out after the first year anyways since it's tough here. The rest of you took lessons for other dragon specialties like feeders, breeders and blacksmiths, etc. I'm saying this beforehand. If you don't want to be on my black list you should better learn everything how hard you are able to, don't slack off, train when you are free and most importantly - don't be late to-"
She was cut off by the loud opening of the entrance door. Yep. Knew that someone would be late. A tall boy with brown locks ran in. "I'm sorry I'm late."
"I can see that." Ingeltore said sternly. "Go find a seat. We're gonna talk after the ceremony ends."
He nodded and ran to the closest free seat which was at the back. How the hell everybody who's sitting there could hear her? The row was so far.
"As I said. If you don't want to see my bad side most importantly don't be late to anything." I think I heard someone gulp at that moment and I'm pretty sure it was the boy from before. Poor him. I hope she doesn't eat his soul alive.
