Tyler sat on the bleachers as he watched the cheerleaders practice their routine. The football tryouts were going to start in the next ten minutes. He watched as they lifted Jenna into the air. Debby clapped her hands when they successfully got her into an extension liberty, bringing her back down in a barrel roll.
Debby jumped up and down as she cheered and clapped, causing Tyler to roll his eyes.
He didn't know why, but he suddenly found a disliking towards Debby. They were friends last year and nothing has really changed, but everything she does now makes Tyler just want to puke.Jenna tightened her ponytail and glanced up at Tyler. She smiled with a small wave. Tyler smiled and jerked his chin up. One of the other cheerleaders, who Tyler knew her as Bea, gave Jenna a high five. The girls began to climb up the bleachers and to where their stuff was. Tyler was only sitting a few feet away and the girls began giggling.
A few of them spoke together in a chorus, "hi, Tyler."
They began giggling more and Tyler smiled, "hey, girls. Good job, today."
Jenna sat next to him, "thanks. Did you come here to watch us?"
Tyler noticed the glint of hope in her eyes and Tyler felt bad for earlier, "ya, I did."
Jenna grinned, "oh, wow, t-that's cool." She looked to see where the boys were gathering for football tryouts, "you should stay and watch the tryouts. A few of us girls are gonna cheer them on."
That's the real reason why I came here, Tyler thought to himself.
He just nodded instead, "sure."
Debby sat on the other side of Tyler, placing her elbow on his shoulder, "hey, Ty."
Tyler forced a smile towards her, "hey, debs."
Debby sighed dreamily and looked at the guys, "god, doesn't josh just look amazing out there? You can totally see his muscles from here."
Tyler felt himself gag, "uh, sure."
Jenna snorted, "gay."
Tyler scoffed, "I am not gay."
Debby let out a huff and rolled her eyes playfully, "let's hope not. That would suck."
Tyler raised an eyebrow, "how come?"
Debby shrugged, "I don't know...it's just....ew."
Tyler nodded, his chest tightening. For some reason, it bothered him that Debby didn't like gays. It doesn't have to do with him at all. Tyler shook his head and left the thought alone. He turned to the field when the whistle blew. The guys were going over drills and tackling dummies.
The tryouts lasted for at least an hour. By the end of it, the boys looked exhausted. Tyler stood up with the two girls as they made their way to the field. Debby leaned closer and josh pecked her lips. Tyler rolled his eyes and turned to hoodie.
He smiled, "good job, hoodie. You did good."
Hoodie grinned, "thanks."
"Hey, Tyler?"
Tyler turned to josh, "ya?"
Josh nodded to the water bottle next to Tyler, "can you hand me that, please?"
Tyler nodded and tossed the water bottle to josh. Josh caught it and smiled, "thanks."
Tyler smiled back, "no problem."
Tyler walked up to his Dad, "hey, Dad, are we ready to go?"
Chris nodded, "yep, go wait in the car for me. I'll be there in a minute." Tyler nodded and began to walk away, making his way to the car.
"Tyler, wait!"
Tyler groaned and leaned his head back as he stopped, "what is it now, Jenna."
Jenna blushed and shied away, "um, n-nevermind. Sorry."
Tyler shook his head, "no, its fine. I'm just tired, did you need something?"
Jenna smiled and stepped closer, "well, about the party..." Tyler raised an eyebrow, already seeing where this was heading. Jenna bit her lip, "would you like to go with me? Maybe we can get something to eat before it, like a date?"
Tyler sighed and ran a hand down his face, "listen, Jenna, your a sweet girl; but like I said the other day, I'm not looking for a relationship." Tyler couldn't help feel guilty as tears filled Jenna's eyes with embarrassment . Tyler reached out, "Jenna, I'm sorry-"
Jenna shook her head, "don't be, I-I shouldn't have asked....but, who do you like?"
Tyler let out a groan, "Didn't I already say I'm not looking for a relationship? Why is that so hard to understand?"
Jenna shrugged, "w-well, you still have to like someone."
Tyler scoffed, "no. I don't. Now leave me be, ok? I'm not really in the mood for anymore conversations."
Jenna let out a huff, "fine, you don't have to be such a jerk."
Jenna flipped her hair dramatically and turned away. She walked off over to where Debby was. Tyler got in his car and slammed he door shut. Jenna was a really pretty girl and she was really nice. Tyler wanted to be attracted to her, but he couldn't. It didn't make any sense to him. Every time he even thought of a dating a girl it gave him an uneasy feeling.
Maybe...Tyler quickly shook his head, "no, I do not like boys."
Just then, the door opened and Chris got in. He turned to Tyler, "what was that?"
Tyler blushed and shook his head, "n-nothing."
Chris nodded and turned the car on. He glanced at Tyler as he drove out of the parking lot, "did you have fun?"
Tyler snorted and rested his forehead against the window, "not really. Watching sweaty guys wrestle around doesn't really yell out fun to me."
Chris chuckled, "true. Well, you were right. Dun was able to tackle hoodie."
Tyler grinned, "told you. He's ripped."
Chris nodded, "yep, I think he'll really help the team."
Tyler hummed in agreement. His mind drifted to josh and the way he looked in the ripped up tee he was wearing. His shorts were hanging awfully low and you could see his V line every time his shirt rubbed up. Tyler quickly shook his head and scoffed. Why the fuck would josh be on his mind?
Chris raised an eyebrow, "you ok?"
Tyler blushed, his heart racing with confusion. "y-ya. I just remembered that I have homework."
That wasn't completely a lie.
