Dan's POV
Phil asked me to go with him somewhere. He actually did. I mean, it's not like it's a date or anything, and there are going to be other people, but he did ask me. Even though he only just met me.
Dan's heart was still racing. He, shy, plain Daniel Howell, was going out to a social event with Phil and other people.
He and Phil were walking side by side down the corridor, heading back outside. Dan wondered vaguely if PJ had found what he was looking for. Or if that was just an excuse to leave him and Phil alone together. It was probably that, knowing PJ.
"So... how long have you known PJ?" Phil asked him casually, trying to fill the silence between them.
"Oh, primary school, something like that, ages. What about you? Any friends you've known for more than two years?" Dan raised an eyebrow and Phil laughed.
"Well, I have got one friend I've known from birth. Her name's Ana. She's going to be there on Saturday. Ana was the one who said you could come with me. I'll introduce you some time." Phil smiled.
Dan felt his heart flutter in his chest. Phil had asked someone especially, if he could take Dan. Even if it was his best friend he asked.
Dan got his phone out his pocket and checked the time. "I have to go... I've got English... again."
"Ok, I'll see you at lunch. Bye. Meet me in the canteen." Phil waved at him and walked off.
They never got to go outside. Dan walked down the grey corridors to the familiar English classroom. One of the main reasons Dan liked English was that, most of the time, you got to immerse yourself in a completely new world, escape reality, meet new people you will never meet in person. He liked the feeling of freedom.
Dan wished that he could have a life as exciting, as beautiful, and as intense life of the people who only existed on paper.

Phil's POV
Phil was sitting with his friends at the most crowded table in the canteen. He had only sat there because one of his newer friends, Reggie, had found him buying food. Pizza, that he had planned to share with Dan when he got here, but instead had been taken by Reggie to sit with all his and Phil's 'friends'. They had all attacked his pizza and after about two minutes there wasn't any left, Phil only managing to have one slice for himself.
"Thanks, Phil" Reggie managed to say through a mouthful of pizza. Phil didn't listen and turned round on his seat, looking at the doors to the canteen. Phil didn't really like Reggie, he had just sort of, come up to Phil and demanded they be friends.
One of the doors to the canteen opened, and Dan walked in, alone. He was biting his lip and had his hands in his pockets. He was looking around the canteen for him. Dan finally saw him amongst the crowded table and his eyes widened.
Poor Dan. He isn't used to hanging around with a crowd. Well, I don't want to be here anyway, so I might as well leave while I can.
Phil stood up, but Reggie pulled him back down again. "Where are you going Phil?" He asked. "Come on, stay here."
"Urm... I need the toilet." Phil invented, desperate to leave. He saw Dan mouth "I'll go." And begin to back out the door. Phil met his eye and shook his head vigorously. Reggie gave him a weird look. "What are you doing?"
