Phil's POV

Phil was back at his house, having sat there, possibly falling asleep, with Dan, for almost an hour. Eventually though, Dan had woken up, looked extremely embarrassed that he and fallen asleep on Phil, and insisted he went home. Even though Phil protested, and offered him to stay at his place for a bit, Dan had practically begged Phil to let him go home.

He sat on the sofa, phone in hand. Before leaving each other, he had gotten Dan's number. In case he needed to know anything about tomorrow. And because they were friends. Obviously.

At least that's one bonus from Dan leaving early. I can now pester him to my hearts content over text.

Tomorrow was the big day, and Phil found that as each second ticked away, the more nervous, yet excited, he got. It was almost like he was waiting for the initial moment he was going to meet his soulmate, all over again.

He still wasn't sure if he was ready to tell anyone else about this whole thing with Dan, though. But, maybe if it went horribly wrong, which it probably would, knowing Phil's luck, it would be good to have somebody to turn to.

He opened up his contacts on his phone and called Ana.

"Hey Ana?"

"Yeah Phil?"

"Can I, Phil Lester, trust you, Ana Gray, to hold one of my deepest, darkest secrets?" Phil put on a fake dramatic voice, and heard Ana laughing on the other end of the phone.

"Oh, Phil Lester, it would be an honour. Tell me. Now. Ya boi Ana loves the drama. But I won't spread it. I am a trustworthy young lassie."

Phil paused. Was he really going to tell Ana about Dan?

"Phil? Are you alright?" Ana asked, speaking into the silence.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just, you know, preparing."

"Let the preparations commence!"

This is why Phil loved having Ana as a best friend. She knew how to break the tension, while being supportive at the same time.

"Ok. Here goes nothing." Phil drew a sharp intake of breath.

"Well, this must be something important of you're struggling to speak. Even bigger than the disastrous popcorn prank of 2010."

Phil laughed a little at the memory, but then became serious again. "Right, so basically Ana, you know I've been telling everyone I've got years left until I meet my soulmate, even you?"

"Yeah..."

"I lied." He heard Ana gasp on the other end, she was genuinely surprised that Phil had lied.

"I was supposed to meet my soulmate yesterday."

"Yesterday? Why didn't you tell me? Who is it? Why haven't you introduced me? Can I meet them? Are they nice? Do you think I'll like them?"

"Ana!"

"What?"

"I didn't meet them."

"Come again?"

"I didn't meet my soulmate. But the thing is, I think I have."

"Who?"

"This guy..."

"Guy?"

"Yes Ana, a guy. Just like your soulmate's, a girl."

"No... sorry, I just didn't expect it. So anyway, this guy..."

"Yeah, this guy, his name is Dan, and he was there, in the crowded canteen when my watch went off. So I don't know if it's him or not. But, we met afterwards and we're kinda friends now..."

Phil could almost hear Ana raise her eyebrows as she interrupted.

"Friends."

"Yes, Ana, friends. So at lunch today, I may or may not have bunked off to go to the park with him."

"Philip Michael Lester! You must really like this guy if you're prepared to lie, and bunk off for him."

"Anyway, we went to the park, and... he fell asleep on me. And he's also the guy I invited to come with us tomorrow evening."

Ana laughed. "Are you kidding? Phil, I thought you were smart. All these signs that have practically slapped you in the face, and you still don't realise? He obviously likes you, and you like him."

"I'm going to tell him tomorrow."

"Good. I still can't believe you had to call me to work this out. You have to introduce me to him tomorrow. Ok? Bye."

"Bye" Phil said exasperatedly as he hung up. Ana seemed pretty certain that he and Dan were soulmates. But then again, Ana seemed pretty certain about almost everything. He would speak to her tomorrow.

It would all be fine. Hopefully.

Phil needed to rest. His head was spinning. He decided to actually sleep in the bed tonight, even though he could get up late on a Saturday.

Dan's POV

"You're back late" PJ said, as Dan almost stumbled through the door to their apartment.

"Trains were delayed. But I did get takeaway. Because... the trains were delayed. It's Chinese, by the way. The usual stuff." Dan didn't mention the whole going-to-the-park-and-falling-asleep-on-Phil part, just thinking about it made his face flush.

He felt heat climb up his face.

Nonononononono. PJ can't know what happened. I don't know if he thinks there's anything between me and Phil, but I don't know how he'll react, he doesn't really know Phil all that well, and if he thinks that I've replaced him he may not like me, or Phil or -

"Dan? Daaaaan? Earth to Dannyfire?" PJ waved his hand in front of Dan's face. Dan had completely zoned out, his grip slipping on the bag of takeaway. PJ dived down and saved it from decorating the floor.

"Dan, what is up? Seriously, ever since we started college and you met Phil, who, by the way, I'm not really sure I like..."

Knew it.

"...you've been acting all weird and spaced out. Is it Phil? Has he done something? You can tell me. If he's been hurting you or..."

"It's not Phil" Dan said quietly, almost incredulously. Phil would never hurt him.

"What did you say?" PJ asked, inclining his head. "Something about Phil?"

"It's not Phil! Why the hell would it be Phil!" Dan started shouting, all the emotions he had experienced in the last few days mixing together and exploding out of him in a volcano of anger. "Phil is the only good thing about this goddamn college! He would never hurt me, who do you think he is?! Who do you think you are, forcing me to tell to everything, just because you're jealous that I've been hanging out with Phil and not you-"

"What the actual hell, Dan? What-" PJ mutters angrily under his breath.

This was the first time Dan had argued with PJ for ages. Dan didn't like arguing, with anyone.

"Take the Chinese. I'm going to bed. Take it. I don't want it." Dan gestured at the bag of still warm Chinese food, all the fight draining out of him. He walked to his bedroom, not looking back at PJ, to be alone with his thoughts.

This chapter felt like it took an age to write and if I'm honest, it's not one of my most exciting. I'm going to call it a 'helping the plot' chapter. There, sorted.

May I also mention, I received an angry letter from one_at_a_time requesting that I restrain from calling her a cucumber/courgette so I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to you. Yeah not really. You'll always be a cucumber to me. Ly xx

WARNING: The next chapter is going to be a loooooong one

I'm running out of ways to say bye x
