Marie-Anne's POV
A light knock on the door wakes me up, did I fall asleep? I get up looking down at the book I was supposed to be reading and the case I was supposed to be working on. I hate when that happens, I fall asleep during the day when I'm supposed to be working and I can't even fall asleep at night if I don't take my pills or get drunk. Sometimes, the pills don't even help, it makes you fall asleep, but it doesn't keep you asleep.
The person knocks on the door again, I sigh looking at my face on my phone's screen. I fix my hair and fix my messy desk, "come in," I finally tell the person. Rebecca, she enters the office giving me a heart whelming smile. We've never actually met, I only know her because Dylan use to talk about her all the time and he used to show me her picture.
She looks the same from eight years ago, her dark hair is flowing down her back, her dark eyes are the same. She has a pair of dark jeans on with a turtleneck, who wears turtlenecks in Florida? "Hi, you probably don't know me, I'm Rebecca," she says giving me her hand to shake. I shake her hand giving her a smile.
"I know who you are," I tell her.
"Of course you do," she mumbles to herself. "I was wondering if you could do me a favor," she says taking a seat across from me.
"Is Dylan dead?" I ask, "if you want me to go to the funeral so it could look like he had friends, I won't mind," I tell her in a serious manner.
"He isn't dead," she says. She has an accent, that's so cute.
"Do you want me to kill him?" I ask, "it'll cost you, but my parents raised me as a good Christian, I'm always open to helping others," I say. She stares blankly at me, she probably thinks I'm crazy.
"You're funny, I see why Dylan likes you," she says. If only I was joking.
"Wasn't meant to be a joke," I tell her. She bites her bottom lip nervously looking around at my office. She wants a favor, who would have thought Dylan's friends would want a favor from me? "Anyways, what can I help you with?" I ask.
"Today's Dylan's birthday," she starts. That's true, I forgot about that, I've never spent his birthday with him, but I remember how I had planned on making his birthday special eight years ago after he made mines special. Oh, how times have changed. "I'm throwing him a surprise party and I was wondering if you would come, I know it's last minute, but I was just debating with myself," she says.
"That's nice of you, but I'm sure Dylan wouldn't want me there, I mean the guy hates me," I say.
"He doesn't, I'm sure of it. I just want someone he likes to be there and if you don't like it, you don't have to stay. You can just come to wish him a happy birthday, that's all I'm asking," she blabs. Dylan wouldn't want to see me for his birthday, I'll only make him mad and people need to be happy during their birthday. Rebecca's face looks full of hope, "please," she says beggingly.
