Chapter 8: Can't Overcome Fear

A week has passed so far, and still the bullying of Draco continued. Although, there would be times when I would be able to whip up a quick remark to stop him and let him think of how he is and what he has done, especially to Harry.

But, of course, there would be times when I would feel guilt of him too, and I guess I sort of pity him as well. Other times, I just really want to know why he picks on me anyways. What's the point really if anything he throws at me backfires? What does he exactly want out of me so badly?

Hermione, Ron, Harry, and I were walking across the entrance hall. We weren't really saying anything at all, just walking in silence. It wasn't awkward silence, it was comfortable silence.

I looked at the notice board, well, I was trying to at least. There was a load of people huddled around it and I couldn't see anything at all. It usually never gets crowded, like at all. I wonder what could be so interesting?

"They're starting a Dueling Club!" said Seamus over to us. "First meeting tonight! I wouldn't mind dueling lessons; they might come in handy one of these days."

"What, you reckon Slytherin's monster can duel?" said Ron as he read the sign. I didn't seem too interested into it though.

"What monster?" I asked curiously. There is a Slytherin monster? How come I didn't know about this?

"Could be useful." Harry said as we walked to dinner. "Shall we go?" Harry and Hermione didn't mind at all; in fact, they really wanted to go. I sighed hesitantly but shrugged my shoulders at them not really caring.

"Sure, what can go wrong?" I said as I rolled my eyes. And so we went.

Everyone was excited about the Dueling Club as we arrived as they had their wands ready.

"I wonder who'll be teaching us?" said Hermione. "Someone told me Flitwick was a dueling champion when he was young - maybe it'll be him."

"As long as it's not -" Harry stopped mid-sentence and then groaned as he was looking at someone in annoyance. I turned around and saw Professor Lockheart. Oh, now I get it. Professor Snape was also here as well. So I guess they'll be our teachers. I hope there's a demonstration where Snape kicks Lockheart's bloody arse.

"Gather around, gather around! Can everyone see me? Can everyone hear me? Excellent! Now, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little dueling club, to train you all in case you ever need to defend yourselves as I myself have done on countless occasions - for full details, see my published works.

"Let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape. He tells me he knows a tiny little bit about dueling himself an he sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration before we begin. Now, I don't want any of you youngsters to worry - you'll still have your Potions master when I'm through with him, never fear!"

"Wouldn't it be good if they finished each other off?" whispered Ron. I snorted with short laughter.

"I wish, that would make me the happiest girl in the school." I said.

"You'd be the only happy girl in the school," Ron said as he rolled his eyes.

"Exactly," I said with a smirk. I continued to look at the duel that was about to happen. Lockheart bowed but Snape didn't, as I would expect him to. They raised their wands as they were about to battle.

"As you see, we are holding our wands in a accepted combative position. On the count of three, we will cast our first spells. Neither of will be aiming to kill, of course." Lockheart told us.
