Chapter 14: Slytherin's Rise

I felt my hand being in another. It was like another hand was in mine, and it felt quite relaxing, but it also felt like it was forced. Soon enough, I felt the hand leave me, causing my hand to feel lonely. I wanted to frown, but I couldn't. I couldn't feel anything around me other than that touch that left my hand. I couldn't feel my muscles move or anything. It was weird, but I couldn't do anything to fix it. I heard my name being called and then it was gone. What's going on?

Suddenly, I opened my eyes. When I opened them, it felt like I haven't opened them in days. The bright light hurt my eyes from staying under the darkness for too long. It was like I had the best sleep ever, but it felt long and lonely. I sat up, looking at my surroundings. I'm in the hospital wing? What am I doing here? I looked down at myself and saw bandages wrapped around my chest and thighs. What?

"What on Merlin's grave happened?" I whispered to myself as I touched my chest and thighs, only to have winced when I touched them. That really hurts. . . . Then realization dawned on me. I should be dead! The serpent killed me! Well, it did.

"Ah, I see you're awake, Ms. Samus." I whipped my head up to see Professor Dumbledore. My eyes widened as I stared at him in shock. When did he get here?! How long was he here?!

"P-Professor Dumbledore!" I stuttered. I blushed at my sudden mistake and tried to sink into the covers in embarrassment. He gave me a warm laugh that I soon knew that it was alright.

"It's quite alright, Ms. Samus. How are you feeling?" He asked as he edged a little closer towards me.

"A little sore. . . ." I muttered quietly. He frowned at my words.

"Hm, I guess you're not fully healed, yet." He said as he began tapping his chin which seemed to deep in thought. I furrowed my eyebrows at this. What could he be thinking of?

"Professor, is there something on your mind?" I asked as I tilted my head towards the side. Dumbledore smiled at me.

"My dear child, I just have something to say to you." He said and I nodded my head. "You sacrificed yourself for Harry Potter, you gave your life just for him, and yet, you saved him when he was trying to save you and Ms. Weasley over there. I want to ask you this, Ms. Samus: why did you do it?" Well, that more like a question. . . .

"Well, he would risk his life for me, and I knew I would die either way. I'd rather die that way because I would die for doing something great rather than having a normal death like everyone else which is always in their sleep or of old age, especially to a beast like that. But the reason I did it. . . . I guess it would be because I didn't want him to die. His life is more important than mine, anyways. He's special and he had awesome parents that went through so much, just for him. I don't have anything like that, I'm not special. I just happened to be a very clumsy witch that's friends with Harry and Hermione and Ron." I said as I shrugged. Dumbledore chuckled.

"You still almost died. Fawkes had a hard time healing you; your system processes oddly. Hard to believe it, I know, but you seemed to be wanting to conquer death. Now, don't tell me it's not true. Your body almost gave out last night and you had Madam Pomfrey quite frightened to death." He chuckled and I smiled beside him.

"Well, it would be better to die. I don't have anything to live for here. I'm not even appreciated. Not even by the other Slytherin's. . . . The whole House doesn't like me. My parents seem to not care, and when I read a letter from my mum, she doesn't even want me back! My father has a new family anyways, so he practically doesn't even love me. I don't have any other family, I never met my grandparents or any other relatives. I'm alone. If there is no one to love me, there is no point in living. There is no one I love, so it seems pointless. I'm neither loved or to love. Death seems like such a welcoming place right now where I won't be judged and won't have to live with fear and pain every day. . . I'd rather be dead than alive, anyways."
