Chapter 10: Truth Be Told

Harry and Ron finally figured out she was a cat after I left a message in the stall that Hermione stayed in. Ron had a good tease of her for a while till I shut him up by hitting him just enough times on the head. Several weeks have passed still then, and Hermione was getting attention from practically everyone when they heard that she was a cat. Ever since Christmas break was over, it was getting a little crazy with things too.

Harry and Ron told Hermione and I that Draco wasn't the culprit, and I straight up told them that I tried to tell them, but they were too dense to believe me. Yeah, sure. They both tried to tell me something that Draco said to them, but they were interrupted every time by none other than Professor Lockheart. I didn't really care much though. It probably wasn't something important anyways.

I left Hermione and the others to talk in the hospital wing when I was just lazily walking around without a care. Then every time that I took a step, a splash would be heard. Confused, I looked down to see water to my feet. Hmm, I wonder. . . . I looked around, and of course, it was Moaning Myrtle. She must have flooded the bathroom again. I wonder what's up with her now?

Sighing, I opened the bathroom door and walked inside. I could hear her wailing clearly now as I made my way inside. Myrtle was crying more than ever before, and it made me feel really bad for her. How should I comfort her? How COULD I comfort her? She was in her toilet, just like usual when she would cry. But for some reason, she seemed to be really upset this time.

"What's the matter, Myrtle? What happened?" I asked as I made my way towards her.

"Who's that? Come to throw something else at me?" Myrtle said miserably.

"Why would I want to do that? What happened, Myrtle? Who threw something at you?" I asked as I edged closer to her. I didn't really know what else to do.

"Don't ask me! Here I am, minding my own business, and someone thinks it's funny to throw a book at me. . . ." Myrtle shouted as she splashed more water around the place.

"I'm sorry that happened, Myrtle. I wish I could comfort you in a way, but it's practically impossible when you're a ghost. . . . who threw it at you in the first place? Do you know?" I said.

"No, I don't. I was just sitting in the U-bend, thinking about death, and it fell right through the top of my head." Myrtle said.

"I'm sorry, Myrtle. Do you know where the book is?" I asked.

"It's over there, it got washed out." Myrtle said pointing and I turned around to see the book lying on the floor under the sink. I picked up the small book and examined it closely. It kind of looks like a diary to me. I saw a faded year on the cover, but I couldn't tell what it was. It was probably over fifty years old though. I opened it to see if there was anything written in it, and the only thing I saw was the name "T. M. Riddle". Why does that name sound so familiar? Have I read about him somewhere? Hmm, I'll have to figure that out. . . .

"Well, thank you anyways, Myrtle. I'm sorry I couldn't cheer you up, though. I hope you get things sorted out and get to you feeling better." I said.

"Oh, it's all right, Aquila. It was nice talking to you, though. Maybe when you die, you can hang out with me in the bathroom sometime." She said with a grin. I gave her a confused stare as I furrowed my eyebrows.

"T-that seems nice. . . ." I said with a weak smile as I walked out of the bathroom. I wonder if I should show the others about this? Maybe I could wait a while till I figure more about it, and who this "T. M. Riddle" is. Yeah, that seems like a plan.

I've kept the diary with me, not doing anything with it yet. I couldn't decide what to do with it anyways. And I've still never had the chance to look for it in the library. Hermione could finally leave the hospital wing as she was cat-free.
