Song of the Week: Skinny Love ~ Birdy

Chapter Sixteen

Everyone stood frozen staring at all the children laid on the floor. All of them clutching various body parts. Groaning. Blood covered most of them, their own and other children’s. Their small  bodies covering our floor in a sign of innocence and abuse.

“Who are you! You stupid children. What are you doing on MY territory?!”

I looked back at Liam. How stupid of him to start asking such things of children. Now especially when they’re right here in front of us injured and in pain.  I couldn’t even get a word out before Kacie turned to yell at Liam.

“Listen here Idiot. These children are more banged up than any child should. If you don’t shut that mouth of yours I’m going to bang you up worse than these children.”

Kacie went on talking- well yelling mostly. I could feel both Ashton and Rocco’s eyes on me. I looked around. These children looked to be about 5 to 10 years old. The children were either cowering in fear or looking to be in a great deal of pain. There was one child who looked up at me with a serene expression on their face. A small boy. I moved myself into a sitting position.

“What’s your name?”

“My name is Nickolas  Calum.”

“Well Nickolas, can I ask why you’re here?”

“We are all Forgotten children.”

I looked back  at Rocco. His eyes stared at me in shock and horror. The Forgotten Children were known for their lost parents and in the rare cases they flee. They flee before any family members or pack members can help them. That’s how the forgotten came to be.

These children were rarely seen. None could ever find them, they found you.

“Nickolas, why are you here?”

“We aren’t here for fun. Some weird men came and found us. No one finds us.”

“Who were these men Nickolas?”

“We don’t know. Jessica, we were looking for you. The moon spoke to us.”

I looked at everyone and they looked at me expectantly. Ashton had a look of uneasiness on his face as he stared back at me.

“What do you mean the Moon spoke to you?”

“The Moon Goddess. She speaks to us when time of need is coming. She told us you, and your sister will help us. Mostly you, when the time comes only you will know the answer. The time has come for you to-“

Nickolas was stopped by a tall exotic looking girl. Her caramel brown eyes glanced at me and she looked over my shoulder to where Ashton stood. He looked at her and then looked away a look of discomfort and shame covering his face.

“Maybe we shouldn’t talk about this here Nickolas. We should get the children clean up first and then we can talk in private.’

Nickolas looked at me and then at Ashton. He nodded and got all the children to sit up, some still lay on the floor injured.

“KACIE! GET THE TWO IDIOTS TO STOP THEIR RANTING AND HELP THESE CHILDREN!”

Kacie snapped out of her shock. Then she stomped over to Liam and Rocco. Her hands reached out and smacked both of them in the back of the head. Both of them looked down at her shook their heads and went back to arguing. She release a huff of frustration. So quick I didn’t even have a chance to stop her she grabbed their heads and banged them together.
