Chapter 18

Song of the week: Everybody Wants to Rule the World ~ Lorde

“Ashton? Elysha?”

The two looked up. One of a fairer skin tone and the other of a tan complexion. Their hair the same shade of brown.

“Yes Jessica?”

Elysha always spoke with such respect and cautiousness. I will probably never understand why all of the Forgotten children act so calm and serene. While Ashton quickly ran to my side. Elysha took slow calculating and measured steps.

“I’ve made a choice.”

Both siblings turn to look at one another. Looks of an emotion that could not be distinguished but were shared by the other.

“Continue my dear we don’t have time to waste.” I wan’t sure if Elysha was joking or if she was being serious.

“I never really had to choose. It seemed like I had to choose and in reality my world and everything around me had already been decided. I was chosen. The Fates and Moon Goddess had a choice of every other wolf in the world and they chose me. There has to be a reason right?”

Again the two shared identical looks. To be honest it was starting to piss me off. Like are they twins? Wait a second?

“Are you guys twins?”

Both again shared identical looks. Of course both had looks of horror on their faces.  Then one quickly changed to amusement and the other to fear.

“JESS! It’s not what it looks like! I mean maybe it is but we weren’t- uh we aren’t- we -we.”

“You were never supposed to know the truth. Of course now you’re our alpha, “ruler, or queen, whichever you prefer. That means WE can’t keep anything from you.”

“We are twins of course that you could easily see. I mean both of us have similarities, you MUST be able to see them.”

She was right Elysha had a strong jawline as did Ashton, their noses were the same, their skin tone was similar, and they both had the same eye as well as lip shape.

“So Jess, yes we are twins but I’m older. We were both supposed to be protectors. Then our parents were killed. Elysha being the rebellious child she is decided that gave her a chance. She said it wasn’t set in stone and she wasn’t going to give time for it to actually be written in stone. I told her that whatever she had planned wasn’t going to work. Elysha being Elysha didn’t listen and did what everyone knew she’d do. She fled. In the middle of the night on November 8th she fled. I saw her from my window. I wanted to chase after her but the goddess appeared and told me she’d be alright. Her destiny was the destiny she was building and that I’d see her again.”

“I’m incredibly grateful he didn’t chase after me. I found Nickolas a week into my running. He too had lost his parents and decided to flee. Together we went around the whole country and before we knew it we stopped finding children they found us. All the lost souls of children come to us Jessica. The leader of course. Which is now you.”

I stared at both of the twins both had such unique eyes. Caramel and liquid amber with a pine green. Their piercing eyes made me squirm in my seat and then I thought of something completely wild.

“Wait so if I’m “alpha” doesn’t that mean I need a beta and a “mate”?”

Elysha nodded and shook her head unsure. “You need a beta but you don’t need a mate. I’m a living example of that.”

Who could be my alpha? Justine could be beta but Kyle was already a beta. I needed someone I could trust. Someone the children could trust. Maybe someone who was a forgotten child themselves. Nickolas? No he’s too young. Carly? No she was just my personal stalker slash guard. Elysha? Elysha!

“Elysha?”

“Yes”

“How would you like to be my beta?”

Her eyes widened. The look on her face showed she was NOT expecting that question. Ashton look as surprised as Elysha both shared looks of confusion and concentration.

“What am I missing?”

“Jessica. Have you heard of the Great Queens prophecy?”

I obviously showed confusion and extreme lack of knowledge because she shot me a weary smile.

“Jessica we have a small suspicion you’re the Great Queen.”

“The Great Queen shall rise from the pain.

The abandonment and solitude.

Rejection is painful but that will not be the

worst she shall undergo.

Heartache and madness will fill her life for nine

months. She shall be reborn and changed for

the best.

Twin from a strong bloodline at her side.

One her trustee and the other of a special

connection.

Another a previous ruler and leader

Together the four shall join forces

A tetrad stronger than any other

Only they can deceive and destroy,

the darkness that threatens to take over”

“Jessica I think only you are the key to what is coming. You have a twin and well one of them we can assume is Ashton.”

“We thought you should know.”

“Man guys, this seems like some kind of soap opera.”

“Tell me about it”.

Elysha’s voice had taken a board and flat tone. It caused me to look up. She was giving Ashton a flat look and he stared at me expectantly. Ashton seemed to hang on everything I did and said. His eyes wide and expanctant. To be honest it was a bit frightening.

"Guys I accept being in charge of the Forgotten children. I want to show them they aren't alone. I want to show them there's more to like than pain. Maybe in their old pack they felt like they didn't belong but I want to show them there's more for them out there."

"Jess, I know you have no idea what taking over a pack means but we will be here with you every step of the way. You wont ever be alone."

“What do we do now?”

I looked at both of the sibilings in the eye. I need to let them know I was being serious. This wasn't a game anymore. I was an alpha. I was the leader of these children and they needed to be shown and given a true childhood.

"I believe it's time we settled down. Let's find a territory we can call home shall we?"
