Chapter 12: Forever Emenies

Maplepaw gazed blankly at Dovewind's silver tipped tail swing back and forth in front of her as they went on border patrol.

She swatted and Dovewind yelped as her claws tore her fur.

She pulled it away and glared at Maplepaw.

"Focus!" She hissed angrily.

"You've been really tired and sleepy lately. Are you ok?"

Maplepaw yawned, her eyes slowly drooping.

"Yes." She sighed.

Dovewind watched her for a moment before padding to Darkclan's border line.

A pigeon lied on the floor, dried blood surrounding it. Dovewind sniffed it.

"Darkclan!" She gasped.

The bushes rumbled and three Darkclan cats emerged from the trees.

It was a dark brown warrior named Snaketail. The deputy, Adderfang, was there as well. So was Dawnpaw.

"Why did you steal our prey?!" Dovewind hissed.

"We didn't fur ball!" Snaketail yelled.

Dawnpaw crouched behind Snaketail. She guessed it was her mentor.

"What are you doing here anyway?!"

"Marking our border's!"

They glared at each other with bitter hate.

Suddenly, Adderfang launched himself at Maplepaw. She gasped as Snaketail swarmed over her too.

Their claws raced on her back. She winced as pain seeped through her body.

The weight above her lifted as Dovewind fought off the two toms.

They battled while Dawnpaw and Maplepaw hissed at one another:

Suddenly, Dawnpaw leapt onto Maplepaw's back. She pinned her down.

"What?! But I'm your sister!" Maplepaw gasped in shock, wriggling in her grasp.

"Not anymore." Dawnpaw hissed in her ear.

She threw her aside. Maplepaw coughed blood up as she was flung against a tree.

Maplepaw did the move Hollyleaf had helped her with.

It blasted Dawnpaw off the ground.

She bolted upright and straggled to her.

Maplepaw looked desperately to Dovewind, who had chased Adderfang off.

Dawnpaw surprised her and pinned her down once more. She raised her paw.

"Say goodbye 'sister'." She growled.

Maplepaw closed her eyes, ready to feel claws and her last breath.

Suddenly, there was a sharp squeal as the weight above her lifted.

Dovewind was attacking Dawnpaw!

She flung her on a tree and clawed her face.

Dawnpaw wailed and scrambled to safety back in her camp.

Maplepaw stood next to Snaketail. She hissed and bared her teeth.

Snaketail raced, his tail between his legs and his ears flattened.

Maplepaw yawned once more and brushed against Dovewind.

"Great job!" Dovewind praised.

Maplepaw beamed.

"Lest go back home so Roseleaf can heal your wounds."

They went home, surrounded by a swarm of cats as they asked what happened.

Roseleaf lead Maplepaw to her den and healed her scars as Dovewind explained.

Maplepaw stretched out in her nest. She had to stay here tonight.

Violetpaw ran in. A pure look of happiness was spread on her face.

"What's so great?" Maplepaw mumbled.

"Were getting a sister or brother!" Violetpaw mewed excitedly.

Maplepaw smiled.

Hailstorm raised his head.

"Go to sleep you two!" He hissed angrily.

Maplepaw slept. She couldn't stop thinking about what Dawnpaw had said.
