I'm sitting, waiting for the results. I want to find out. I don't know why Natalie keeps telling me how nice it would be if it could be a surprise. It's been five months- I want to know if it will be a girl or a boy...
Natalie sighs.
Yes- she's Terry's wife. She's helped me all these past months. Taught me a thing or two about pregnancy and how to cope. She's been my Mum.
"What do you think it'll be?" She asks, smiling.
I shake my head before reaching for a magazine. The face on the cover is my sixteen- year old sister. Gina.
"She looks stunning..." Natalie says.
I nod, flicking through the pages. The last time I saw Gina, I flew out to Glasgow for a fashion show. It's almost as if she's a different person. Her hair has been cut very short and dyed so blonde that I could swear it's almost white.
"Aren't you proud?" Natalie, beams, leaning over me, as I read the article on my sister.
I nod again.
I don't have time to get very far before the doctor arrives.
"Goodmorning. I do have the results!" The doctor smiles, gesturing for Natalie and I to come into a room. With much effort, I'm up and following the doctor.
Nothing has changed about me. I'm still Amber- I don't even look pregnant half of the time. I was already skinny and stressful before I got pregnant. Now I'm actually being forced to eat three square meals a day. Not because I crave it. Because I have to.
"Are you ready?" The doctor says, excitedly. "Well..."
He pulls out some documents.
"It's...a boy!" He sings.
I smile- Pel was right.
"Oh, thank the Lord...." Natalie says. "Naomi won't have competition. Are you happy?"
"Of course." I say.
Not because Natalie and her daughter won't have competiton. Just because Perri really wanted a boy.
Soon, we're out of the hospital and Natalie is driving.
"Do you want to come out for lunch?" She asks me.
"I'm not hungry..." I sigh.
"You have to eat. You're eating for two." She says.
"Fine..." I say.
So she forces me to go out and put some food in my mouth. I text Pel, Mitch and Kim about the news.
I get replies from Mitch and Kim.
'Great. A mini one to join DV.' Mitch says.
I laugh at the thought.
"Well....I hope he won't be dancing until he's at least ten or so. Education is important..." Natalie smiles, before eating some ice cream.
I love her and all but sometimes her comments can just be unnecessary and annoying. Soon, Terry joins us. Now, that's someone I like to see...
"Heard it's a boy..." Tel says, sitting down on our table. "That's great."
I smile.
"Aren't you supposed to be at a reharsal? With Pel?" I ask.
"No- it's actually my day off. Mitch and Perri are working with...your dance group. The biggest picture girls?" He says.
"Oh, of course..." I say.
I'm quite frustrated. I can't even go to the studio and coach my girls. Or dance at least. Natalie made me stop that.
