Chapter 3 Part 3

My heart is literally beating five times a second...

Suddenly a car comes out of nowhere and it almost looks like it's trying to run George over.

George panics and cowardly runs back into the house.

When the driver gets out, I realise it was Kim.

"Kim!" I shout, getting out and running up to her.

Her eyes wander down to look at Reid, sympathetically.

Then they fix on me.

"Mitch..." She whispers. "He's in there with Pel."

Her voice is shaking.

"I'll go in..." I sigh.

"Amber!" She shouts, ignoring the fact that we don't want to be heard. "Let's just call the police."

"No!" I shout. "If we call the police, George will shoot them down both dead. Believe me, he's capable..."

Kim looks at me for a while, before nodding.

"Okay..." She sighs, taking Reid, who was gently sleeping in my arms.

I kiss his forehead before running my hands through his soft, brown curls.

"Just like Pel's..." Kim smiles.

There is noise from inside.

I shake the fear off.

"Take him....drive off with him. At least I'll know he's safe." I say.

Kim is about to speak but there is another loud crash from inside which makes her run into the car with my baby and drive off slowly.

I rush up to the door. The knob is frightfully cold. It's open so I push it.

The room is completely black so I take out my phone to shine light. There is no one around. No furniture. But the light catches on a staircase.

I fumble for the rail and begin to make my way up in the darkness.

When I get to the landing, there are whispers and light coming from the door.

I knock stupidly. Suddenly, I hear footsteps from downstairs.

"Pel!" I shout, my voice shaking. "Where are you?"

"Amber!" Perri shouts.

I think I can hear Mitch's voice too.

"I'm going to get you guys out!" I shout. "I promise..."

"Amber, be careful!" Mitch shouts.

I turn around as the footsteps get louder.

The door is locked and I keep shaking, trying to push the doorknob.

"It's locked." I say.

"Ambs- get away from the door." Pel says.

I step back.

"Why?" I shout.

"It's not safe. Go away!" Mitch shouts.

I don't know what they're talking about till I feel hands around my mouth.

"You." I hear George whisper.

He reaches for something which looks like a key and pushes it into the door.

Then he pushes me so hard into the room that I fall to my knees.

All of a sudden I feel like I might vomit. Maybe it's the sickness of the pregnancy....
