"Is he going to die?" I ask, Perri, shaking.

He looks at me like I've just hit him.

It's now almost midnight and Reid has been in there for about six hours...

"Or....are you not sure?" I say, turning to him now.

"I'm not a doctor....." Perri says.

"But you promised...." I say, with tears in my eyes.

Perri puts his hands on my shoulders, turning me to face him.

"I did promise...." He says. "Of course I promised! Of course I want everything to be okay!"

"Well- don't shout at me!" I shout. "Let go of me! I'm sorry- I know it's my fault!"

Perri let's go.

He doesn't say anything after that but stands up.

"Where are you going?" I ask him.

I know this is not just hurting me- it's hurting him as well. I know this isn't just about me.

"I'm sorry....." I mutter.

"Why are you sorry?" He says, pacing up and down.

I just look down.

"I just don't want this to be for nothing..." I say. "All the pain that came with having this baby. All the hurt we felt when I first got pregnant. What am I saying? It was all my idea....."

He's not saying anything back. I'm crying now.

"First Mum- now him-"

"Amber- stop. Don't say that!" Perri shouts.

"Everybody just dies, don't they? Life isn't making any sense anymore.."

"The last thing I wanted was for this to happen. That's why I told you to stay at home- that's why those doctors told you to be careful! Don't you get it?" He exclaims. "It wasn't because I was ashamed of you or I didn't want you around. I love you. The last thing I wanted was for anybody to get hurt....."

He walks up to the hospital doors.

"Where are you going?" I scream, running up to him and clinging on to him. "Stay!"

"I just.......need some time- okay?" He says. "I need to think......"

He kisses me and I let go.

I don't know what I am thinking. I don't know why I let him walk right through the door.

"So....you don't care?" I shout.

"I said- I need to think!" He shouts back.

This is just pointless. A nurse comes up behind me.

"Miss Hallico....you are disturbing other patients...." She says.

"Did you see that?" I shout.

"Shh....." She says. "I think you need rest."

"I don't need anything!" I scream.

She tries to sit me down and talk but I refuse.

"We're trying. We are going to do everything we can, okay dear?"

Her scottish accent sounds like Sapphire's. It merely comforts me.

"Are you sure you don't want to go home?" She asks.

I shake my head.

"Then come lie down...." She says.

She takes me into a room.
