I woke up hazy in a hospital room filled with bodies surrounding me.
The first person I saw clearly was Simone who seemed like she was fake crying cause I know that girl doesn't give two shits about me.
Next was Sapphire who was dressed in her army attire and sitting on Devons lap on my other side.
At the foot of my bed was Micah, the Queen and Cheryl.
"What's going on?" I asked with dry mouth
"Lena tried to abduct you." Devon fills me in making me remember what she had told me before, "Stupid girl, your thud to the floor was loud enough for someone across the world to hear. Not that you're heavy or anything but you did receive a big blow to the head."
"Almost like she wanted to get caught." Sapphire mumbles
"I can't believe a contender would do such a thing." Simone whimpers looking innocent which reminds me that she was about to get someone to kill me in my sleep
"Why are you here again?" Cheryl asks, "She doesn't like you."
Speaking what was on my mind I couldn't be mad at Cheryl and simply stayed quiet.
"I'm here for moral support." Simone snaps, "And didn't you try to kill her?"
Again another truthful statement but one that was unnecessary since Cheryl and i's recent making up.
"I'll try and kill you too, instead you won't be here to tell anyone about it." Cheryl threatens and Devon chuckles lightly which makes Sapphire hit him on his shoulder.
"Why is she still here? She's not even in the competition anymore." Simone reminds everyone and the queen sighs
"All the contenders were given an invitation to the Red Moon 'celebrations' and shall attend if they wish to."
Everyone know why the celebrations weren't exactly celebrations since he king and the Queen will die.
"So, where is Lena now?" I ask
"Dead." Devon deadpans, "We got everything we needed from her during the interrogation, there was no need for anymore."
Everything here is so cut throat it's horrible.
"A fitting punishment." Simone nods before leaving my side and walking to the prince, "We have to get ready your majesty, the celebrations start soon."
Micah pulled his arm away from her grip, "Then you go. I'll see you there."
Cheryl sniggers at the rejection Simone just received.
"Actually," the Queen starts, "I wish to talk to Elise myself."
They stayed as if waiting for her to say what she has to say.
"Alone." The queen adds
"Oh right." Sapphire mutters pulling Devon from the seat and going, Simone dragging away the prince and Cheryl bowing quickly before leaving the room.
I watch as the Queen walks around my bed and sits down next to me.
"You know, I disliked you when I first met you." She informs me like I wasn't already aware. "Boring as you were, you've changed into a little spitfire which reminds me a little of myself. "
Not seeing it at all I couldn't help but scrunch my nose in a perplexed manner and she told me to wait as she explained.
"I didn't always use to be this way. I love my husband very much but he and I were always a naive pair, trusting those who didn't deserve it, that came to be our downfall in '95 when we trusted the wrong person. Veronica Mason." The Queen paused, "See I saw you listening into Micah's conversation with Samantha and Devon and I didn't want you to get the wrong impression."
"You don't have to explain anything to me, your majesty." I mutter, my voice still husky.
"I already know that, I'm the Queen." She says as if that gives her a free pass, "But you're going to be Micah's mate and it'll be foolish to think anyone else would do a better job of keeping that boy in check."
I blushed at the compliment, "Micah isn't going to-"
"Hush now as I finish my story." She interrupts, "Veronica bought nothing good into this world but resentment and hatred but the only thing she ever did right was give birth to Micah Carlyle."
My heart sunk as the Queen confirmed all my suspicions
Micah isn't the Queen's son.
"I couldn't have children myself and as much as it burned me to have to see the face of a product that nearly killed the bond between my husband and I, I couldn't allow Vincent to abandon him, to have Micah out in the world knowing that both his parents didn't love him enough to stick around." She says taking a deep breath, "So I decided to keep him and to have all the werewolves in the world hunt Veronica down because I'll be damned if she could walk around, and think she could get away with what she's done."
I sat with a million questions roaming my head but I know have to stay respectful.
"Do you think of Micah like your own son?"
The Queen looks down at her lap, "I tried, child, I really tried but I couldn't fully love him as I wanted to. Veronica nearly ruined me and I've never looked at Vincent the same after what he did."
The king cheated on the Queen with who ever this Veronica woman is, of course she's going to have some resentment towards the king and to Micah.
"What does this have to do with the curse?"
She smiled lightly, "You're going to have to Micah about that." She got up to leave me, "I can hear your stylist feet running here now, so you better go get ready darling. Look good because it's now between you and Simone and that girl can dress."
Just like she predicted, Guiel burst through the door running toward my side, "Oh my poor girl, look at you and your pale face, how am I supposed to hide that today?" He cried before straightening his back, "No worries, I'll get this going, I can work with this."
"You sure?"
"Definitely."
