"I guess you could say I take their breath away."Alice suddenly steps away from me and stares, as if seeing me for the first time. "Andrea, what happened to your voice?"
A realisation hits me. That wasn't my voice. That wasn't me.
Shocked, I scream out help into white abyss I realise I was in. No answer. I try to look at myself but realised I had no physical body. WHAT. What was I? Where was I?
Help! I called out. Help, help, help!
Will she ever shut up. A voice growls, almost animalistic. Actually, it was very animalistic. It's the voice that spoke to Alice earlier. It seemed very annoyed.
Oh my god, who are you? I yell. I think about what is going on at the outside and suddenly I see nothing but pitch darkness. I almost panic until I realised the voice with control of my body was clenching her eyes closed in concentration.
Great. It's impossible to not have thoughts be heard. No wonder she can never keep quiet. It says, a little defeatedly.
If you're a ghost possesing me, shoo! I really start to panic. I've never been the type to look into paranormal or supernatural things. Be gone, demon! Be gone!
The voice growls again. Suddenly, a black tunnel appears in front of me, a white orb enters the plain existence.
Calm down. It said, a little annoyed. The voice.
I still. A demon wouldn't look this innocent, would it? A faint call of my name from outside my mind breaks my staring. I look around again. I notice the tunnel was still open. And that no one was occupying my body now. The demon had came through the tunnel before. I looked at the orb, then back to the tunnel.
Maybe if i....
I zoomed past the white orb and through the tunnel in record speed. I was basically, no, literally, flying to whatever may be held at the other side. A faint howl rings out behind me before I smashed into the ground. I took a deep breath. I was laying flat on the floor. I felt myself vigorously and the ground below me. Everything is real. The real floor. The real me.
"Andrea? What happened," I looked up to see my best friend by my side again. The startled Alice . She felt my forehead and shook her head. "your head is still hot. You didn't take the medicine, did you?"
I tried to find the words to tell her what's going on, but I couldn't. I was speechless. I looked around and saw a few people watching us. A tiny growl emmits from my lips, a sharp pain in my gums making me wince. I got off the ground, dusting myself off. I feel the area that the pain came from but felt nothing there. Soon, the voice in my head says. I clenched my jaw and told Alice softly, "Get me home, now."
---------
"Are you going to tell me what happened?" Alice looks at me through the rearview mirror, driving at usual-Alice speed. By that, I mean utterly slow. I kept quiet at the backseat, my legs strewn across the two-and-a-half, until I got the hint that Alice won't drop it.
"At home."
She smiles a little, victorious, and continues driving.
-----------
First order of business, I think deeply. How did this all happen?
A flash image of me pouring the meds down the sink makes me gasp. Was this what would happen if I delayed the medicine too long? I would go crazy?
Don't you think about it. The voice tells me.
Alright. I convinced myself. Once I get home, I will eat the medicine.
My head pounds loudly in protest. Too bad.
The rest of the ride, Alice went on and on about what I did to the mean girls and how shocked they looked and how shocked she was. She also talked about the major trouble I might get into because of what I did.
I explained to her how no one would believe that I, a sickly girl, could ever hurt a fly and there were no CCTVs or witnesses to prove otherwise. It would be their words against ours, 2 on 2. Me returning home from 'fainting spells' would also be a good alibi. Tons of people saw me faint so they would testify we were telling the truth. It wasn't the first time I had to go home sick anyway.
Alice tells me that I am too good at lying and I laugh it off. Says I'm too calculative for my own good. I thank her, before headache starts to hit me again, harder than ever before.
