Chapter 23: Apologies

    The last school bell rang as the students walked out of the classroom. This would be one of those days where I go look for Ethan and we would both go home together to do homework and study for tests. But since I have detention with that bitch today, I'm not going anywhere until it's all over.

   As everyone was walking out of the school doors, I went straight from my locker to the cafeteria. I walked in to see the principal and Grace who was giving me a death stare.

   "Miss Watson, great to see you" the principal said.

  "Hi" I mumbled and waved.

   He each handed us cleaning spray and a roll of paper towels. I heard Grace groaned after he gave them to her. I rolled my eyes. This is seriously happening. I actually have to clean dirty school tables as my punishment. 

  "You both have an hour to make these tables spotless. Don't waste it" he said sternly.

   He then left leaving me alone with Grace. This is just great. I'm stuck with her for a whole hour until my brother comes to pick me up. This is now staring to feel like a nightmare.

    "This sucks" I heard Grace said as she was scrubbing a table.

   "Tell me about it" I responded.

   We've been cleaning the tables for the past thirty minutes now which means there's thirty minutes left until all of this is over. It has been torture throughout this whole detention so far. It's like I'm stuck in prison and this is my only duty to get out. I sighed and went back to cleaning a table.

   "Why did you do it?" I asked Grace.

   "What are you talking about?" she responded.

   "About you fake dating Grayson because you liked my boyfriend".

   I didn't hear anything from her except the sound of a squirt from the cleaning spray. I stopped to look at her sitting on one of the chairs at the table. She looks at me as she was playing with her hair tie that was on her wrist.

   "I had a crush on Ethan for awhile. There was this kind of spark that I felt whenever I see him in class, in the hallways, or even out of school in general. I would tell you about how I feel about him but I was scared of what you would think of me having a crush on one of the most popular guys in school. Plus he's now your boyfriend and I thought that you would get mad at me. When you guys started dating, I felt a lot jealous that I went over to Grayson for some help who has a crush on you. We agreed to fake date for a month and eventually break up but now you caught us."

   I didn't know about this. My own best friend felt scared of telling her own feelings to me. No wonder she's been keeping secrets from me. No wonder she and Grayson faked their relationship. It's all starting to make sense now. I walked over and sat down next to her.

   "Grace, you know you can tell me anything. We've been best friends for a long ass time, you know that right?" I asked.

   She nodded in response. I noticed tears began forming into her eyes as she looks at me with a sad look on her face. I opened my arms signaling her for a hug and she wrapped her arms around me as she cried into my shoulder.

   "I'm really sorry Anna" she cried.

   "Shh Grace, it's ok" I said.

    We both pulled away from our hug and Grace was wiping her tears.

   "Are we friends again?" she asked me.

   "Yes" I responded.

   We both went in for another hug as we both smiled. It feels nice to have my best friend back in my life again.

Ethan's POV

   I went downstairs to get a snack. It's been boring without Anna with me. We would've been doing homework together or watch movies while cuddled up on my bed. Unfortunately, she had detention and she won't be here until a little after 3pm. I just want her with me in my arms as we talk about how our days been. 

   Once I walked into the kitchen, I saw Grayson pulling out a water bottle from the refrigerator. He looked up to notice me standing in front of him.

   "Hey E, can we talk?" he asked me.

   I nodded in response. Ever since he told me what really happened, I've been ignoring him. How could he do this to be? Be in a fake relationship and keeping secrets from Anna and I. Grayson led me to the living room and we both sat down on the couch next to each other.

   "Look bro, the reason why all this bullshit happened was that because I got so jealous of Anna being with you. The first time I saw her, I thought she was the most beautiful on earth. I've always dreamed of her being mine but when you asked her out, I kinda felt upset. That's why I got Grace to be in a fake relationship with me just to make you jealous since Grace also has a crush on you. So now you know and it's probably the time where you start yelling at me".

  My face was in shock. Grayson and I would always tell each other everything since we said our first words. We would never lie to each other and we were always truthful. 

   "Gray, you know you can tell me anything" I said to him.

   "I know but I didn't tell that because I was afraid that you'll be really pissed off at me".

  I put my hand onto his shoulder. He looked up at me with an melocoly look on his face. 

   "It's ok bro. I forgive you" I said to him.

   "You serious?" he asked.

  I nodded a yes with a smile on my face and we ended up having a bro hug. I'm so glad that everything is taken care of for now. Hopefully things like this won't happen again.
