Chapter 12~ Nephrotic Syndrome

I walk in slowly. I see Amber laying on the hospital bed, looking out the window with a tear slowly falling out her right eye. I sadden at the sight of my best friend hurting.

** AMBER'S POV **

I feel Grayson wipe away my tear. I know it's him because of the way he's holding my face. He holds my face different then Ethan does, Grayson cups my face with his hand, Ethan just places his hand gently on the side of my face. Grayson lets go and sits down on the side of the bed, I role over to face him.

"You scared me you know?" He smiles.

"Sorry.." I sigh.

"Some lady called me right after your mum said she hadn't seen you in ages and then when she said she'd called an ambulance well I didn't know I could run as fast as did when I ran to my car." He laughs.

"Well I guess you kinda had every reason to worry.. I guess.."

"I think I'm just paranoid."

"Well if I hadn't been found on the peer I probably would have jump into the water you know.."

Grayson reaches for my hand and holds it tight, "Please don't ever do that again."

I shift my legs slightly and see a curious but worried look Grayson's face.

"Is uh Ethan here?"

"Y-yeah I'll go get him.." He gets up before I pull him back down to sit beside me.

"Who else is here?"

"Your mum, Jai and Noah."

"So not my-"

"He said he'll be here Amber."

"Yeah.. he said that last time.." I whisper the last part. "Grayson?"

"Yes?"

"I'm scared.. so much.."

"Why you're going to be fine!"

"Did they tell you why I was sick?"

"No tell me." He says getting comfy. It's kinda cute.

"My kidney hates me." I laugh. "Nar I um need a kidney transplant and uh they wanna do it later today.."

"Hey like I said, you'll be fine!" Grayson leans down and holds me in a warm, tight, comforting hug. Not letting go until Ethan starts coughing behind us.

"Oh hey!" Ethan says clearly confused and a little embarrased

I just smile a small, sad smile.

"I'll go, use can gossip about how much more sexy I am than Ethan!" Grayson laughs walking out.

"You wish bro!" Ethan says before Grayson is out of the room.

He walks over to me and just looks at me. "How you holding up?"

"Terribly."

"What!? Why!?" He sits down fast.

" I gotta have a kidney transplant and they kinda wanna do it later today but I'm shit scared. Like terrified. Ethan."

** ETHAN'S POV **

I see how terrified she is by her eyes. The last time I looked into her eyes she had a small sparkle, a shimmer of hope when she'd told me she'd be fine. But now? Now they look cold and scared, I can tell she's been crying by the slight puffiness of them. I reach in and hug her tight.

"We got you, you'll be fine."

"Anyway, what did use get up to while I was having a fit and ignoring you?" She laughs

I laugh back. "Well Gray hid in his room the last four days. Over thinking and being paranoid. I went to your house twice but you were in the bath and shopping, without me!" I watch her grin as the mood changes slightly. " We filmed a video and then Gray went to your house a few times too but came back disappointed and angry. He definitely has a thing for you!" I laugh.

"Can I point out that a week ago you said-"

"Hey! Yep! I got it! I know!"

She looks at me raising her eyebrow at me.

"But I uh made a new friend, her name is Lilly. Grayson doesn't know about her yet so please don't tell!"

She holds her pinky up, "I promise." I link my finger with hers and smile. "Well tell me about her!"

I laugh. "She's pretty. She has long-ish, light brown hair and she is a book worm like you. She likes pineapple pizza though.-"

"I bet you're thinking she's a keeper then?"

"She likes the same pizza as me, of course I do!"

"Okay keep going."

"She has the prettiest green eyes, like ow my gowd!"

"Like ow my gowd!" She pays me out.

"Why you wanna know so much about Lilly anyway?" I laugh trying not to sound rude.

"Well it's distracting me and she sounds cool!"

"So you approve then?"

"Wow, hold up boy! I haven't even met her yet!"

We laugh for a few more minutes, trying my best to keep her in a good mood. Her mum comes in to see her and I walk out to Grayson. He looks at me with a puzzled look upon his face.

"What's wrong?" I ask carefully.

"Took your time.." He sighs quietly.

"If you're worried don't be, we spoke about some stuff and agreed on some other stuff but it's all good bro."

"So you spoke and agreed on stuff?"

"We were talking and agreeing about me, if that helps?" I notice his face go to shocked and realize what he thinks. "Chill she's all yours we're not dating!" I sit down beside him.

** AMBER'S POV **

I spoke with mum for a while until she had to take the Noah and Jai home to dad because he decided he wasn't coming. Ethan and Grayson are sitting in here keeping me company, Grayson refusing to leave me alone. I don't mind though he is keeping my mind off the surgery. Ethan is sitting on the end of the bed editing their video and joining in on Grayson and I's conversations every now and then.

"You done editing yet!?" I ask Ethan eagerly.

"No but I can finish it later, why?"

"I bet she wants to watch a movie.?" Grayson laughs looking at me.

"Whaaatt?"

"Lets watch a movie then." Ethan gigles, turning the laptop around to face me.

I sit forward and type in the movie I want to watch. Grayson climbs in beside me on my left and Ethan sits in the chair beside the bed.

"No way! I'm not watching that while I sit here with you!" Grayson whines. He has a point though.

"Grayson, darling. I don't have cancer, I have nephrotic syndrome. You said it I'll be fine and I love this movie. Please.." I sigh.

But the girl doesn't even die in the end she just falls in love with someone that does then reads a sad letter at the end, that makes me cry like hell.
Grayson looks at me studying my face while I turn to the laptop about to change the movie. He grabs my arm and says "Fine."

We watch the movie, turns out neither of them had seen it before.
