I ran down the stairs and out into the hallway. I closed the door, and slowly slid down the wall, sinking lower and lower to the deep red carpet on the floor. Falling deeper and deeper, into that hole.

I brought my knees up, and rested my elbows on them. I put my head in my hands and let the tears fall.

I'm automatically giving him the benefit of the doubt by being afraid, but I'm finding it harder and harder to keep it together.

"Daisy? What's wrong?" I heard a familiar voice, and looked up to see Emily with her purse, and a grocery bag, looking down at me with her crystal blue eyes that were now filled with worry and concern.

"Nothing. I'm fine." I wiped my tears and pushed my hair behind my ears. She slid down the wall next to me and put her bags down. "Now I know a troubled soul when I see one" she smiled and I laughed at the use of her old fashioned words. "So what's up?" She leaned down slightly and nudged me with her shoulder.

"Boy drama" I sighed, deciding to open the door, but not fully let her in to my past. I ran my hand through my hair nervously "Was it that Joey guy?" She stretched out her legs and placed her hands on the ground.

"No. It was my ex boyfriend. He's not exactly processing things well with the fact that I have moved on" I placed my hands over my eyes and tried to rub away the sadness left behind from my little breakdown.

It seems as though I've been having a lot of them lately. "I hear you. Hell I just got out of a relationship 'cause I caught the guy cheating on me with my former best friend" she sighed.

"Wow. That's pretty messed up" I chuckled and she laughed along with me. "Yeah it is" she laughs harder, which made me laugh. When we finally stopped laughing and caught our breath, she leaned down and put her head on my shoulder.

"Don't let him get you down. I may not know the whole story, but if he's bugging you that much, then you might want to talk to him about leaving you alone" I sighed as I entertained myself with the idea of a perfect world, where Joey and I could live happily ever after, and Derek would be out of the picture completely.

"I wish it were that easy" I sighed and said goodbye to my thoughts of the fairy tale ending that we all wish to have. "Well, I better get these groceries home. I live right around the corner. If you need me, I'll be here" she smiled and helped me up.

"Okay" I smiled and walked back to Joey's apartment door. "Emily?" She stopped in her tracks and turned around with a smile "Yeah?"

"Thanks for the piece of optimism. I really needed it" I flashed a smile and she adjusted her purse on her shoulder. "No problem" she waved and smiled as she walked away. I stood at the door frame for a moment and watched her, then I went back inside and up the stairs to Joeys room.

I lightly knocked on the door and walked in the room to see Joey, out of bed, and pacing around the room. As soon as he saw me, I could almost see the 100 pound weights being lifted off of his shoulders as he walked over and pulled me into his arms.

"What happened? Are you okay?" He pulled away and put his hands on my shoulders. He bent his knees slightly so he was eye level with me. "I'm fine. I just needed some fresh air." I lied and ran my hands nervously through my hair.

"No you didn't. I know when your lying, you have a tell." He brought his hands up from my shoulders to my cheeks. "Oh and what's that?" I whispered, looking deeply into his eyes. "You run your hand through your hair, fixing your bangs in that sexy way that I love" he returned to his normal height.

I turned around, and collapsed on his bed, burying my face in the sheets. "Tell me what's wrong" I felt the bed dip down beside me as he sat next to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. "I saw Derek" I announced and wrapped my arms around the fat shark pillow that was laying on his bed.

"What?" His hand tightened slightly on my shoulder and I nuzzled my face into the stuffed shark. "Where?" His voice got deeper than it had been, and it was no longer the soft and sweet voice I had gotten to know. "He was at my window earlier this morning" I lied again, and refrained from touching my hair. The more he knew about Derek, the bigger of a target he would become. I had to protect him.

"Don't worry. I'll keep you safe" he spoke softly again, and flipped me over, bringing me into his lap as he hugged me and kissed my neck softly and sweetly.

I soon found myself drifting off to sleep in his arms, and he laid us down, covering me with the blanket. "I'll keep you safe" he whispered again and I felt him press his lips to my forehead as I fell asleep completely.
