"See you!" I waved as my parents and Violet drove off, on their way to the airport. I decided to not go, still tired and drained from my trip to Rome two weeks ago.

I ran up to my room and pulled a notebook out from under my bed, opening it up and shaking it. A slightly-crinkled envelope fell out and onto my pink pajamas. I took a deep breath and tore the envelope open.

Inside was a sheet of paper, chicken scratch handwriting all over it.

Dear Elena,

I'm not sure when you will decide to open this, if you even decide to at all, but I thought this note was necessary. I realized that I shouldn't be embarrassed of the conversation I had with Lili when I thought she was you, because although it may have seemed embarrassing, it's not the worst thing in the world. I admitted to her that I liked you, and I do. Now I know that we would never be able to be together, but that still doesn't change anything for me. So that's it, that was what I was hiding, refusing to tell you all this time, and i'm still sorry. You probably thought it was something much more entertaining or important, sorry to disappoint you. Maybe one day we will cross paths again, and maybe we will end up together, who knows, the world is a crazy, unpredictable place.

Hope you and your family are doing well, I miss you (and Violet),

-Brook

I held the envelope to my chest for a second, my eyes closed. I smiled as a tear dripped onto the paper, a happy tear, I think. I set the envelope aside as I moved the note from the notebook under my bed, to the bulletin board above my desk. I put a test that I got an A on in front of it, just because my mom is known for being nosy.

As I turned to lay down and think about the letter again I saw that some things have fallen out of the envelope from Brooklyn. I picked them up and laid them out onto my bed.

A newspaper clipping that read, 'young girl wins big at horse race' with a picture of me smiling, Brooklyn looking upset in the back, a note that read, 'this time, bring your parents too.', and below it, four plane tickets to England.

I really struggled to think of things to put in this book since i'm really stressed since i'm about to start school, but hey, we got through it!!
