How I am Able to Conquer the World: A poem

My little cousin, she's only 6, asked me once,
"Cheyenne, how could I rule the world?"
And I laughed, saying that she needed to be so much older in order to conquer this messed up, confusing world.
It's way too confusing for a little girl, I said.

But really, the world might just need to be conquered by the littlest ones of all.
The world, right now, needs the love that little children give to everyone around them
It needs the willingness to share that every child has in them, because they know that sometimes a person doesn't have all they can have.
The world needs the fear that is embedded into little children when they hear that they've done something wrong, and have to be punished for it.

So now, I'm wishing that I had told my little cousin
To start by just making her bed. Or at least to sleep in her own bed.
And when she's made her bed, go out and tell her mom and dad and sister that she loves them.
And when that's done, go to school and listen. Learn to read and write.
And practice those things to the best of her abilities.
And I wish I had told her, that when she's at school to share with her friends, even if they don't like to share with her.
And that if someone is crying around her to give them a hug.
I wish I had told her, that when she comes home from school, to tell her family that she loves them. And to do her homework, because she needs to be educated about our world.

I wish I told her, not to cry when someone says that she's not pretty, because its not her fault that they can't see how beautiful she is.
And to go home and pray that the hate in their heart goes away. And to fall asleep with nothing but good things in her head.
And that when that day is done, to do it all over again the next day.

Because this messed up, and confused world
Could use some of that innocence that a child has,
Before we're all too far gone, to get back to that point.
