"You trust too easily!" The Negexis Agent gripped Parker's arm behind him, grabbed him by the hair, and then violently slammed his head down onto the table. The sudden action frightened Broadway and sent the small animal scurrying from the table knocking the pistol off with it in the process.
"Parker Raymond, do not resist. You are now a slave of the Geniel Empire. Geniel troops are on their way to secure you as we speak."
Parker's face was a contorted mask of pain and anger. "And you are going to die before they get here!" the young man said removing a knife from the buckle of his belt with his free hand. A novelty he located in a nearby pawn shop. With a slight turn of his pain-wracked torso, Parker jammed the sharp blade beneath the Negexis beast's ribcage and pushed with all his might. He felt the vice-grip on his head lighten.
Parker shot upright like a rocket connecting the back of his head with the Negexis Agent's chin. The dark-eyed creature's face arched skyward, involuntarily losing his grip on Parker. Momentarily stunned, it stumbled backwards.
Throwing the chair out of the way, Parker kicked the knife handle clutched in the Negexis' two hands and sent the Agent falling back over a wooden display filled with meat seasoning.
Cheong roared as it removed the blade from its side. It looked over and spotted Broadway scurrying across the dirty white tile floor. "I will make you watch when I tear that abomination's head from its body!"
Parker was desperate. "Where's my damn pistol!?!!" He heard a muffled yell and looked up to see Waite at the office door window pointing down at the ground. Parker scanned the floor, spotted it, and scrambled for the weapon.
The Negexis Agent formerly known as Cheong stood and threw the display, the chairs, and tables aside making a bee-line for Parker. "You are fighting what cannot be defeated Parker Raymond...The Flood of Darkness is coming!"
Parker dove to the floor, grabbed the weapon with two hands, and then rolled around onto his back with the gun pointed upwards. "Really? You won't live to see it!" Parker exclaimed and pulled the trigger on his pistol, burying a bullet in the Negexis Agent's forehead.

"Merde! Cheong's Negexis!?!!" Waite wasn't sure if was the onset effects of the sleeping pills or not, but he thought he just witnessed Cheong's eyes and face change. He lowered the chair and backed up the moment he saw it, stopping just short of tossing the piece of furniture through the office door's dirty glass window. "To think, all of this time, that bastard has been embedded with us. For what? Two years now...Why? We are all loyal Geniel troops!"
Waite watched the flurry of activity occurring out front with his slurred mind racing. "Maybe Parker's right. Maybe the moment this is all finished...we're finished as a species?" Waite saw the kitten dash from the table and the pistol fall off.
Waite considered if the Negexis Agent won this fight he might not see tomorrow. In fact it was very likely he would have to be silenced, because if the word got out that Negexis Agents might be embedded in every human squad in the Geniel army, just like what happened in Taured right before the invasion, all hell might break loose. No one soldier would trust another, especially as a new world was integrated into the military.
Waite felt his consciousness waning and realized there was no time for him to save himself and help Parker. So, he just slapped at the glass and pointed to the weapon lying on the ground the moment Parker looked over at him. "It's right there!!!"
Waite groggily watched Parker move like a seasoned warrior. Expertly acquiring the pistol from the floor, and without error, accurately taking out his Negexis target with one shot. It was almost unreal, the sight of the Agent's head jerking backwards and then its body crumbling to the floor, life...or whatever it had, extinguished. Waite had never seen anyone actually kill a Negexis Agent before. They were always too fast or too strong, but not this Fantôme ...this Parker Raymond. He was somehow able to fight these beasts and kill them as if he were their equal...
PFC Waite's eyes closed, hands and face sliding down the office door's glass as unconsciousness enveloped him.
