I don't like the looks of this guy. But I think I can take him.
I take a quick glance at the wounded soldier and saw that he fled the scene.
Well helps me out. I put away my BR and whispered to Beta. "See if you can do some research on this guy."
"On it. I'll let you know what I find."
I turn my full attention to the person the wounded soldier calls his boss. "Why can't I know? Scared of a Freelancer?" I taunt.
Beta comes back with small yet useful information about the new guy. "His name is Felix. Mercenary. Works for somebody that is higher up. Good with knives. Has Hardlight shield enhancement. And works with someone named Locus."
"That's a lot of info." I whispered to her as I watch Felix chuckle.
"Oh no no no! Not at all. It's because my boss doesn't want you to know and that he wants you dead. So as a loyal soldier I'm just gonna..." He pulls out something and chucks it at me.
"9 inch knife, 12 o'clock, aiming for the middle of your eyes, 20mph." Beta warns.
I take a step back and catch the knife by the blade before it could even scrape my silver visor. I sigh in relief. Thank goodness Wash taught me some of his knife tricks back at the Project because Felix looks at me like he's just seen a Sith overload.
I toss it up in the air and catch it by the handle. "You failed to kill me. Congrats. Bet your boss won't be too happy it when you tell him Felix."
Felix raised his DMR at me. "How do you know my name?"
"If I tell you, I'll have to kill you. And I'm sure you don't want to die so early in your life. Especially when you have so much money waiting to be spent." I reply. I can play his sarcasm game all day.
"You know what: fine. Since I can't kill you-" Felix lowers his gun.
"Sniper at 2 o'clock, invisible on a ledge about 100 feet. I believe it might be Locus. When I say 'Mark', use your Hardlight shield at that direction." Beta tells me while reading my stats.
"Just don't get me killed." I whisper.
"-I'll let my partner do the honors."
"Who? Locus?" I smirked.
"Wha- How- How do you know our names?!" Felix exclaimed.
"Mark!"
I put my shield up at the direction Beta told me. A sniper bullet hit the shield and bounced off. I turn my head to see a astonished Felix, frozen in fear.
"What's the matter Felix? Are you scared?" I smirked.
Felix tries to put words in a sentence. "But you- how did- where- wha..."
"What's the matter Felix? Cat got your tongue?" I ask. Wash used to say that phrase to me whenever we have a disagreement and I have nothing else to support my side. It was annoying but it helped me be more open to more ideas.
"He may have nothing to say, but I do." A deep voice says. A steel soldier with green trim appeared behind Felix holding a sniper rifle.
"Locus. Mercenary. Also works for the same person as Felix. Good with sniper. Has Invisibility enhancement." Beta informs me.
"I guessing you must be Locus." I say, crossing my arms.
"And I'm guessing you have an A.I." he retorts back.
I put my hands up in fake surrender. "Guilty. Beta come on out and introduce yourself."
Beta appears on my shoulder and gives them a nod.
Felix steps back. "WHAT I- HO- I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!"
I rolled my eyes. "So how does it feel to failed at killing a Freelancer? Bet your Boss wouldn't be happy about me being alive."
"We got new orders to bring you to our Headquarters and have Control meet you and talk to you." Locus replies, which makes Felix freak out for some unknown reason.
"Did you said Control-"
"Yes." Locus growls.
"Wanted to see her?!"
"The more you open your mouth, the more I think you're a really bad soldier." I sigh.
Felix growls at me and I just laugh. What a child..
"Seeing her defend herself the way she did with ease, she is no ordinary agent from Project Freelancer." Locus explains to his partner. I can tell he's also annoyed at Felix too. "Control thinks that could be useful for training and stealth missions."
Locus seems like a soldier bred for war. From what I can tell, he follows orders without question and probably very skilled.
Something to take into consideration..
I cough. "Well um I'll take the complement. Not sure about training though. I kind of.. never made it on the Leaderboard."
"Smooth." Beta says.
"Shut up." I scolded.
"So what's your name on great and powerful freelancer." Felix asks.
"Call me Alaska." I reply. I realized that I was still holding Felix's knife in my hand. "Also thanks for the extra knife. Kind of needed a back up." I smiled as I put the knife away and walked out of the crash.
