I will admit, the Mess hall here is slightly better here than at the Project. Since we are actually on a planet, we can get fresh food. I already finished my food so I was going to run some sims with Beta if we get caught stealing information.
In the past few weeks, I've been training soldiers for battle by day and gathering information on these Space Mercs by night with the help of Beta. No one has notice yet, but they will soon.
"Hey princess why are you sitting here by yourself?" Felix walks up and sits across from me wearing a smirk. He eats a mouthful of his sandwich and looks at me. Well I did say I was going to run sims with Beta but change of plans: get Felix to trust me more.
I roll my eyes dramatically and look back at him. "Oh you know. Just being the new girl who doesn't have any friends to sit with."
"That sounds depressing almost." He says through his mouthful.
I laugh. This reminds me when I talked to Tex for the first time. "Didn't they teach you that you shouldn't talk with your mouthful?"
He swallows. "Ha. Ha. I really don't care." I raise an eyebrow. "Ok maybe a little..." He says sheepishly. "I still don't understand how you were able to teach those mercs in like less than an hour and they become pro knife throwers."
"I had a good teacher.." I reply, thinking about those really early morning training sessions with Wash.
"Have you eaten already?"
I nod my head.
"How do you like the food here compare to Project Freelancer?" He asks.
"The food here is so much better than at the Project. We usually had food that came straight from the package, to the stove, to the tray. Besides that, it was still a good time to spent with my family. Wash would always eat with his helmet on and everyone would laugh. My brother York told me once that he and Carolina told Wash to puke inside his helmet to test the waste removal in his suit while they were doing a freefall in a Pelican. That was funny.."
My voice trails off and my mind wonders into the many good memories of me and the other Freelancers. The time when North and I would give each other tips on how to do trick shots with a sniper. York and I competing against each other of who can unlock a master lock the fastest. Training with Carolina in hand-to-hand combat. Tex showing me how to use my enhancement effectively and all the mission we had together. And Wash teaching me all his knife skills and being my support pillar.
"Ghost? Hey Ghost, are you still on Chorus?" Felix snapped his fingers in front of me. I snap out of my thoughts. "Hm?"
"You zoned out while. You ok?" He asks. His face showed concern.
"Just remembering." I simple say.
Felix looks at me and gives me his signature smile that makes me want to die on the inside. "I know something that could help."
"Oh?" I hate acting so much and I hate that I'm also too good at it.
"Locus and I are going out on a scouting mission." He explained. "I think you should come along."
"Will I finally be told why you guys have Freelancer equipment and what the actual mission is?" I questioned.
"Well I don't know about that.. It's usually Locus who fills the newbies in on the mission."
"Locus will be coming up on your six in three minutes." Beta tells me.
"Got it. Thanks." I whisper to her. "C'mon Felix pleaseeeee?" I give him my puppy eyes.
He sighs. "Ok fine." He says, giving in. "The people of Chorus are at war with each other because they don't know how to run the planet since the UNCS freed them from the Covenant and forgot about them. They had a system, but some people didn't like what it so they formed the New Republic. They started attacks on the Capital.. well not the Capital but bases around it. The Capital then became the Federal Army of Chorus. They have been battling for quite a long while. Even I don't remember when it started."
"So like Star Wars basically, but real life and no sith lords?"
"Pretty much."
I need more information than this. "So you guys play a role in this how exactly?"
"Our boss wants to... take the planet for personal use. He hired Locus and I to escalate the war further and gave us soldiers and some mercs to help out. I was placed in the New Republic while Locus is in the Federal Army. Together, we raised the death count so much it's crazy." He laughs.
Yea crazy insane.
"Have you ever considered that the Reds and Blues could stop your plan?" I ask.
"The Reds and who?" Felix asks.
I look at him is slight shock. "You seriously haven't heard of the Reds and Blues?"
"Wait what do you mean by that?" He asks confused.
"They were the people I was riding home with along with a few Freelancer friends. They helped take down Project Freelancer." I explain.
"So.. you're saying that they are a threat?"
"It's possible. Who knows what they are doing somewhere on this planet." I shrug.
"That's something to consider Ghost." Locus says walking up to the table making Felix jump. "Jeez.. Locus don't have to scare us while having a wonderful conversation."
"I wasn't scared." Felix just look at me like I'm crazy. "Perks of having an A.I. remember?"
I turn to Locus. "I know what they are capable of when they are organized. They can deal lots of damage."
"Well last time we did a check up on them, they were getting desperate for a ride off this planet." Locus pointed out.
"So you do know who I'm talking about." I glared at Felix. "I should really stop asking you for information."
"Hey I didn't know their names! Or even their group name!!"
Locus clears his throat to get my attention. "Now, do you think-"
"That they will help?" I complete his sentence. "No. But I know something that will."
"What are you think princess?" Felix looks at me smiling.
I return the smile. "We bring the war to them."
