Different in the Same Ways

Chapter 4

"Thats a cool name" Ellie says. I know she's just trying to make me feel better so all I say is "Thanks."

"Soo, why did you pick Dauntless?" she says to me.

I think about what I want to say and just speak my thoughts, "This is where I belong, I mean that I have a feeling that I should be here. Its my duty. My family is.. not my family anymore. I dont have a family. I dont need one because I'm brave. I am not a coward." I say in a whisper to her.

Wow. I am a coward.

"Oh gosh, we have to jump." says the Erudite boy, Victor.

I turn aroung and then see a roof. People are just looking at the roof like their just zombies. I have a pet peeve for people not paying attention so I get up and jump with Ellie right behind me.

THUMP.

I open my eyes and realized that I'm not dead. I actually landed on my two feet.

Woah. Creepy.

Ellie and I are the only ones who jumped so far. I then hear claps. I look up to see who's clapping. One of the leaders.

"Wow, an Amity landed on both feet and was a first jumper!"

"Suprised?" I say.

"Yup." He says casually.

I aleady hate him, that he thinks Amity are weak.

"Well you shouldn't be." Way to go Scarlet for saying something so idiotic to a leader. Do I want to die?

"What's your name girly?" Says the leader.

"Scarlet, and don't call me girly." I say offended.

"Well thats a pretty girly name girly." He says annoyingly.

Ugh.

"Scar." Ellie says.

"What?" The leader and I say in unison, our heads turning to meet her gaze.

"How about Scar, the name fits you perfectly" she says again.

I like that name.

"Okay." I reply.

After everyone jumped off of the train Nick, the leader speaks up. "Okay initiates! Jump into this hole!"

"Is their anything at the bottom of the net?" asks the pretty Candor girl behind me next to Victor.

"Your gonna have to find that out for yourself." He says and then everyone becomes silent waiting for someone to jump.

I was getting annoyed so I went up to the edge of the roof and I suddenly hear Ellie scream, "Wait! I'm coming with you."

I grin waiting for her to come beside and jump. Gosh, I hope their is a net or water at the bottom. I don't really want to die young. I wont be alone if I die though..

I then hit something. A net. Thank God. I really dont want to wait for Ellie to stop screaming her lungs out like a maniac who's having the time of her life. She didn't notice that we landed on a net so I just grabbed a rough hand and lifted myself off the net not falling.

Gosh, Ellie is still making my ears melt so I pulled her out of the net myself.

"Please start paying attention to when we land" I say.

Ellie snapped back at me saying "If their wasn't a net down here, I wouldn't want to pay attention."

I rolled my eyes and said "You sound like a Candor smart aleck" I say. I roll my eyes again because of habit and then turn to the guy who has rough hands and has tattoo's and peircings all over himself.

"Scar" I say.

"What about a scar?" says the stupid leader.

I slowly say "My. Name. Is. Scar." The stupid leader thinks to himslef and then realizes what I just said with a confused look on his face like it was to much information to put in his brain.

It probably is, I laugh to myself. "I'm Eric, one of your leaders."

I really want to say, no dip sherlock but I don't or else I would be dead right now.

I really dont want to die on my first day of initiation. "First double jumpers!" says Nick after everyone and himself jumped in the net.

Suddenly their are hands all over me and Ellie. Then I realize they are carrying us on our backs. Awesome!

I yell to Ellie saying, "We made the right choice!" Ellie nods her and and I put my head back and just, relax.
