Carolyn's POV:
"Pony... what happened to you?" I said quietly holding in my panic. "Don't worry 'bout him right now blondie,"
"But Dally you said-"
"Hold up." Dally said as we pulled into the hospital.
When we got in the light I freaked out when I saw how hurt Pony was. He could barely stand up he was like a zombie. He had a big bloody gash on his forehead and his eye was black and blue. His cheek and neck were red and his mouth had blood coming out of the side. His blue shirt was ripped at the top. I hated seeing him like this. I felt tears coming to my eyes.
"Ponyboy... you..." I said putting my hand to my forehead crying. "You shouldn't have-"
"Give him shit later blondie, help me get him in, we gotta see Johnny."
He put one of his arms around Dally's neck and the other around mine for support as we helped him walk through the hospital to Johnny's room. We had to get past a few nurses to get in since it was past visiting hours but Dally didn't care if it was past visiting hours. None of us did.
Johnny was laid down on his back. His arms and shoulders still red and pink. His tanned skin was so damaged by the third degree burns. I couldn't possibly imagine how much pain he was in. It broke my heart to see this.
"Hey... Johnny," Dally said softly leading us in the room.
"Johnny..." I said taking it all in me not to cry. "They're together now man." Dally said with a little laugh.
"'Bout time." he said barely being able to speak. We giggled a little. Dally bent down next to him. "We beat the Socs man, we chased 'em right out of our neighborhood."
"It's useless." Johnny said in a hoarse whisper. Our smiles faded.
"Huh?"
"Fightin' ain't no good." he could barely keep his eyes open while talking to us.
"Was readin' the editorals batch in the paper, 'bout you bein' a hero." Dally said touching his bare arm.
"We're all proud of you Johnny." I said softly while wiping my eye.
"Ponyboy..." he manged to say. I let go of Pony's hand so that he could lean closer to Johnny to hear him. He listened for Johnny to speak.
"Stay gold... Ponyboy... stay gold." he said to him.
