Ponyboy's POV:
"You goin' home Johnny Cade?" I said on my front step. "I don't know."
He shrugged looking off into the distance. "See ya 'round." I said going inside.
That night I went to bed. Soda and I shared a room. I got along a lot better with him. I was bummed out about Darry always yelling at me, telling me what to do.
"He doesn't mean it." Soda told me. "He just got hit with a lot of responsibilities when mom and dad died. He ain't used to it. He loves you a lot."
"Hm." I said then changed the subject and he told me he was gonna marry his girlfriend Sandy when I was done high school which I almost was. He was about to drift off to sleep when I nudged him. "Soda... Soda are you in love with Sandy?"
"Uh huh." He said with his eyes closed. "What's it like?" I asked. I always wanted to know and I had never asked him this before. I always kept my feelings about girls to myself. "It's real nice." He said drifting back to sleep. That kept me thinking. I kept thinking about Carolyn. She wasn't like any girl I had seen before. She was the last thought on my mind until I drifted off to sleep.
The next morning I heard that Two-Bit was bringing her over to meet Darry and Soda. I quickly went in the bathroom mirror to make sure I was lookin' good. I heard them come in and start talking so I stayed in the bathroom and peeked from the door.
"Carolyn this is Darry and Soda."
"Nice to meet ya." Soda smiled. "Thanks you too."
She sure was beautiful. She was wearing another one of those sleeveless blouses with and a dark blue pair of jeans. Her blond hair fell perfectly on her chest.
"Carolyn you met Ponyboy yesterday." Two-Bit said when I stepped out. I could feel those butterflies comin' back in my stomach. "Yeah. I did, hi." She nodded quietly. "Hi." I said with small smile.
I could feel my face heating up. There was an awkward moment of silence.
"I'm gonna find my comb." I said as excuse to leave the awkwardness. As I left the boys started chatting up again and Carolyn stayed with Two-Bit.
How could I have been such an idiot! Find my comb? What a dumb thing to say. I already embarrassed myself.
After a few minutes I decided to stop being dumb and man up and go out to the living room where everyone was. The guys were still talking and Carolyn and I were the only ones that weren't talking. She sat on the couch next to Two-Bit. I wanted to talk to her so bad but I sucked at talking to girls. I was about to say something to her when I was interrupted from Johnny walking in.
"Hey guys." The rest of them were talking to him. "Hey Pony, you ready to go? Oh hi." He said noticing Carolyn was there too. "Hi." she smiled. I forgot we were gonna meet up with Dally but I didn't wanna leave Carolyn. "You two headin' out?" Two-Bit said.
"Yeah."
"Why you don't ya take her with you? Show her 'round." he said. She looked caught off guard.
"Sure." I said with out hesitating. "Alright lets go." Johnny said. "You don't mind?" she said. "Not at all." Johnny said leading us out of the house.
Now that we were away from them I could maybe talk to her. This was good.
