He was blinded by the snow once he came out of the carriage. His parents were talking to the driver as he fell down and felt the exhaustion pulse intensely through his muscles. His heart was tearing through his chest, but curiosity forced himself to get up.
"Is everything alright?" He heard. A Dapheni girl was standing in front of him, her eyes curious. "Are you one of these humans coming to explore us?"
"Yes," he said under his breath.
"You look tired. Hard ride?"
He nodded.
"We have a house for you guys. I've been anticipating this!" Spencer could see that the girl could barely hold back from hugging him. "You know, the device business has been among us for so long. It's our pride."
"I can see why," Spencer was calming down. That girl was so ecstatic, it was impossible not to be happy next to her.
"We have been waiting to share this with humans for so long! My parents are device traders," she turned at him and grinned. "I know everything about this."
He stopped.
"My name's Spencer," he reached out a hand.
"Vivia," she took it, looking pleased. Spencer could see that his parents had caught up with him.
"Come, I'll show you the house you'll live in," She started walking. "You're from Fadessa, right?"
"No, from Elaset," Spencer spoke up.
She turned around and raised an eyebrow.
"Elaset?"
"Yes."
"I see. You said it was difficult."
"It was," he didn't dare to tell her about the attack. He had to keep it personal for now, until he figured out what that was. Giving it out to a random stranger seemed like a rather stupid move.
Vivia pushed the door of one of the houses open. The house was wooden, and Spencer was surprised by how average it looked.
"The Dapheni who live closer to the South have trees growing in their area. We bought some from them," Vivia explained. Spencer looked around. He finally let his backpack slip down from his hand, his body relaxing.
"So, you need some rest now, right?" Vivia asked. "If you need anything, I live in the house on the right. If you need anything, ask."
She disappeared behind the door, and Spencer let go of his exhaustion.
