Spencer woke up from a loud bang. There was one thought that was slammed into his head.
They had come.
Jumping up, he turned towards Vivia's bed. She was gone. He ran downstairs, almost falling and barely managing to keep balance on the last steps. He heard footsteps and breezed out of the house.
"Vivia!"
"I'm here!" She pulled him back in before he knew it. He saw the table; the invisibility device was still there. He reached out to grab it, but remembered about the sky dust and turned towards Vivia. The pouch was still glowing on her waist.
"Have they visited our house?"
"Not yet. They have a damn large army. Half came into the village and started attacking, and the rest surrounded us."
"You mean, we're under siege?" He stopped, his hand stuck on the device.
Vivia nodded.
"Oh, and take that. Quickly. They're gonna surrender all the dust."
He grabbed the device and hid it inside his pocket, moving outside. He saw a crowd, but it wasn't like the one yesterday.
They were screaming. A group of soldiers was facing the end of the crowd.
"They're giving up the sky dust, aren't they?" Spencer asked.
"Yes. But that doesn't mean we will," Vivia grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the people. "Don't even think of it."
"I didn't."
"Great."
She ran, making Spencer wonder what she was doing. They couldn't get out of the village without killing anyone.
When he could catch up with her, she grasped him. They both were now pressed to a building, breathing as quietly as they could. The village was ending; Spencer saw the soldiers in the distance.
Slowly, Vivia moved on, not going too far from the wall of the building. Spencer followed with no idea what was happening.
"I hope you don't kill us both," he snapped, looking at the soldiers again.
"I know what I'm doing."
He was slightly unsatisfied with such a brief answer. Vivia now seemed too reckless to make wise decisions.
She stopped near a ladder that was leaning against a house.
"First you, then me," she pushed him forward. Spencer wanted to tell her she was a genius.
