It took Spencer a few seconds to realize that the figure was either human or Dapheni. He could see the person clearly, and he dared to take a step. His breath was accompanied by a wheeze of steam coming out of his mouth, and he felt it against his face.
At first the only thing he could hear was the cracking of the snow. The sudden shock caused him to stop, and then the noise was replaced by someone's quiet voice. Spencer couldn't make out what was being said, so he took another step without thinking.
It was then when he noticed that the figure wasn't alone: there were around five of them, he assumed. He soon lost track.
From here, Spencer could make out some words.
"Here?"
An idea flashed through his head. He quickly made a connection. His first instinct was to run, but something was stopping him. He couldn't come closer, but he had to get home.
Were his parents safe?
Not thinking about anything, he rushed to the house's door. He entered so quickly, he didn't even notice the people.
"Mom? Dad?"
"Yes?" His mother asked. He couldn't see her, but at least he could now be sure she was there.
For a moment, he expected the people to enter. They didn't, and he found the courage to continue speaking.
"I think the attackers are here. I saw them when I was coming home."
His father swore from somewhere on the right.
"They're right next to our house, I think. Anyway, we can't sleep until they're gone."
Spencer looked into the window. No voices could be heard, and he couldn't see anyone. He got closer and looked more carefully.
There was nobody. He stared for a little more, checking if someone would approach. The landscape stayed the same, so he turned his eyes away.
"I'm pretty sure they left," he muttered under his breath.
"Let's just sleep."
Spencer fell onto the couch, not caring about anything. He just wanted to sleep right now, and his eyes were closed the moment he lied down.
It was so pleasant to forget that someone was trying to kill them.
