Spencer noticed that the door was half open as he made his way to it. That made him calm; his father always left the study open when he wasn't inside. He didn't want to be distracted while working, but in everything else, he saw no reason not to let his family in.

Spencer entered, pushing the door further. The study was full of books and papers stacked in a careless manner on the floor and table.

He went to the desk, his footsteps heard clearly. He was slightly afraid of knocking something over, so he stared at his feet all the time. Once he finally looked up, he reached for the notebook in the far end, sunlight smashing into his eyes. He grabbed the notebook and flipped through the pages, stopping on one of them.

It was the drawing of a young boy with white hair. His irises were black entirely, and he was dressed in winter clothes.

A Dapheni boy.

Spencer had looked at the picture many times before, and he now knew it well. Underneath the sketch were some notes.

He heard footsteps outside the door and turned around for a second, just to see who it was. His father came in, and Spencer leaned against the desk.

"Oh, I see you're here. Looking at that picture again?"

Spencer nodded, clutching the notebook in his hands.

"You have told me that we were going to go see them."

His father approached as Spencer handed him the notebook. He eyed the picture again, a smile cracking through on his lips.

"Yes, we are. I'm still passionate about this idea. I wonder why nobody has thought of it before."

Spencer shrugged his shoulders as his father turned the page.

"Do you really think that the Dapheni have magic?"

"Perhaps they do. Your mother doubts it, though. She thinks it's something from the outside."

"When are we departing?"

The man put the notebook on the table.

"In a week, I think. I've done some preparation already."

Spencer nodded, turning towards the door. Excitement was bubbling up inside him, and he had one last glance at the study before disappearing down the hallway.
