woojin, youngmin, daehwi, jihoon, and i were sitting sloppily on the school rooftop.

i was reading my book whilst studying for an upcoming quiz.

the others were on their phones or singing/dancing/goofing around.

i had my earbuds in so i could focus in on what i was doing.

woojin sat in front of me and grabbed my book, looking through it.

unplugging my earbuds, i gritted my teeth.

" you made me lose my page. " i say through my teeth.

" it's not even finals yet, what's the point of studying this hard? " he says, trying to find the page i was on.

" studying is important. "

" even more important than your friends? " youngmin asks.

" mhm. " i say, looking down.

" what about family? " jihoon asks.

" somewhat... but it contributes to having a good relationship with my family. they will hate me and strongly be disappointed in me if i receive poor grades. "

" what about me? " daehwi asks, sitting next to me and plugging in one of my earbuds.

i ruffled his hair.

" you want a smart girlfriend, right? " i say, hugging him before grabbing my book from woojin.

" ooh yeah! see, you guys! i have the best girlfriend ever! " he says, squishing my cheeks as i continue to read.

" i don't see anything special in her. " woojin says, laughing.

i glare at him, taking my leg out and kicking him.

he winced, putting his head in his hands afterward in boredom.

" school's already done... why did we even wait for you? " woojin sighs.

" because you fell in love with me after what i told you last week. " i say, laughing.

daehwi, youngmin, and jihoon tilt their heads in unison.

i pull out the conversation from my phone and let them read it.

as they were reading, jinyoung walked through the rooftop door, looking straight at me.

i smile a little, remembering the fun we had last friday.

" hey jinyoung! " i say, waving.

he smiles a bit and pulls my hand for me to get up.

" haeun... i am going to... jump from here. " he says, holding my hands as we walk to the corner.

the rest of the boys get up slowly to watch the conversation.

" wait... why? what about the fun we had the other day? " i ask, shaking a bit.

i mean, i was almost pushed off of this rooftop edge.

" you are the only way i can find happiness in my life. my parents decided to split up, both being immature and leaving the house... my grades aren't good. i can't focus. haeun, if you love me... i won't jump. but if you don't, my life has no more meaning. " he says, looking at the edge.

" what the heck are you talking about? don't you find happiness here? wouldn't you rather be my best friend and see me as the sister you can always go to rather than dying? dying is never a good thing especially if it involves suicide or murder. stay with us! you're part of our friend group and it'll be different without you! " i say, patting his shoulder as i drag him back to where daehwi was.
