Since it was Jessie's birthday, she decided to beg Soda and Darry if the other girls could stay the night. Neither of them being able to deny her puppy-dog face, they gave in and like always, she got what she wanted.

They re-watched Blue Hawaii repeatedly throughout the night and talked about how Elvis is a terrible actor, but his looks power over everything. They soon passed out at around 4 o'clock in the morning, and were all sleeping peacefully except for one.

Carter squirmed around as the nightmare continued.

.

"You have to get out of here, now." Johnny yelled. She frantically shook her head, she can't let him get hurt.

"Go Carter, it's either me or you, and you need to go, Dally needs you."

"No, no Johnny I can't. Please don't make me leave! I can help fight them off." she cried.

"No, them Soc's will only kill you once they get their hands on you. Now leave, it's for your own good," he begged. She gave him one last kiss before running back, deciding it's what's best for everyone. As she ran, she heard a shot ring out. Turning around, she saw Johnny's body crumple to the ground, and she screamed bloody murder.

.

They all woke up, shrieking from the noise. Carter was curled up in a ball, screaming at the top of her lungs.

"Carter! Carter, hon, wake up! It's just a dream...it's just a dream." Jessie coaxed her, running her fingers through her hair to calm her down. Slowly, but surely, Carter began to wake up.

No later than the moment she was awake, Darry barged in the room, Soda, Pony, and Johnny behind him. They were all holding some kind of utensil or a switch blade.

"What's wrong girls?" Darry asked worriedly, searching the room for anything suspicious.

"Nothing Darry, it's just Carter havin' one of her nightmares again. We're fine." Addie said, convincing the boys that they were perfectly okay. None of them seemed too sure, but they nodded and checked the room once again, finding nothing as before. They left the room and shut the door quietly behind them.

Layla began giggling, and everyone in the room looked at her.

"Why you laughin' , Layla Ray?" Jessie asked. Layla covered her mouth with her hand, as if it would stop the noise from escaping.

"Oh nothing, it's just kind of like a chain reaction we have. The gang is so connected that when one person freaks out, so does everyone else. Not just with us girls, with the boys also." she explained. Jessie looked at her, and thought about how unusual her voice is. She's lived with Two-bit nearly her whole life, but she still has the New York accent that she acquired before she came.

Then realization struck them: they really are that close. They're like a chain, and when one link is weak, the rest seems to fall apart along with them.

Jessie stood up. "I'm goin' to get food. You guys can stay here, I'll bring you some of Pony's eggs." she said, and left the girls to their talking.

When she got to the entrance of the kitchen, she heard Darry having a conversation with the boys, so she eavesdropped.

"So, you guys really think I should?" she recognized Darry's voice.

"Yeah." they agreed. Should do what? Does it have to do with any of them?

"Having fun?" she heard a familiar voice from behind her. She turned around, and saw that Soda had just left the bathroom and was standing there with his arms crossed across his chest.

"Um.. yeah. I just came down here to get us some food. " she said, obviously trying to cover up the fact she was listening.

Soda smirked, "I know you were eavesdropping. Just don't say anything to anyone." he ordered. She nodded her head, agreeing to something she wasn't even sure about.

"Don't tell Darry I was listening. Oh, and you're lookin' especially weird today Sodapop Curtis." she smiled, then ran away before he could tackle her.

"Mornin' Darry, Pony, Johnny!" she rushed, and grabbed the bowl of eggs and a few forks then ran back to the room.

She joined back in the conversation as they ate Pony's eggs, enjoying each other's company.

But Carter couldn't seem to shake the weird feeling that the dream left her with.
