Carter's POV

"Where are they?" Jess asked. We are sitting outside Rocky's shop waiting for the boys but they never came.

"Maybe they're runnin' late." I shrugged.

"C'me on. We're walkin'." Jess said, standing up. I stood up and walked behind her. We walked for a few minutes and I started looking around.

"Hey!" We heard someone say behind us. I looked back and saw two Socs walking towards us.

"Jess, they're Socs." I whispered, grabbing her hand.

"Where's Soda and Dally when we need them?" Jess asked as she walked faster. I walked with her and we heard two pairs of feet running towards us.

"Where do y'all think you're goin'?" Someone asked behind me. They grabbed my shoulder and turned me around.

I was standin' face to face with a random Soc. His brown hair hanging over his eyes and he licked his lips. I looked at his friend and he is the same Soc that dissed Dally. His black hair is in a quiff and his green eyes are filled with anger.

"No of your business." Jess snapped at the guy.

"Now you ain't got a right to talk to him like that." The other guy said.

"I can talk to who ever I want however I want." Jess snapped at him. The guy walked towards her and grabbed her by the throat.

"Leave her alone." I said to the guy.

"And if he don't?" The guy holding my shoulder asked.

"Then you gotta go through us." We heard behind us. We turned and saw Soda, Dally and Pony in Darry's truck.

"You guys ain't gonna do shit." The one holding Jess said. The Soc holding Jess tightened his grip on her neck so she started coughing. The guy with the grip on me placed his hands on my ribs and squeezed.

"That hurts." I cried out.

"Leave her alone!" Pony screamed. He got out the truck with the other two and punched the guy. I dropped to the floor and crawled to Jess.

"Jess." I said, grabbing her and patting her back. She kept coughing and looked up at me.

"I'm fine." She said.

"Come on Carter." Pony said. I winced when his body touched mine.

"Dally. I'm scared." I whimpered. I hate how I can never catch a break. I have to be careful everywhere I go.

"How do you feel Jess?" Soda asked. I placed my hand on Pony's face before he pulled me closer to him. His hand made tiny circles on my leg and he smiled over at me.

"I feel fine. It hurts to talk though." She said, her voice squeaking in most of the words.

"Lets go." Dally said as he got out . The rest of us got out and walked inside.

"Can you stand?" Soda asked me once Pony put me down and rushed somewhere. I nodded and stood up.

"Soda." Dally said. He looked back and caught something before looking at me.

"Come on. I'm helping you today." He said. I nodded and walked a few steps before wincing.

"Pony." Soda said. Pony ran over and looked at him. "Pick her up. She ain't gonna walk."

"I'm fine." I said as I took another step.

"You're just like Jess." Soda said with a smile.

"She is my little sister." Jess retorted at him. I looked over and Dally was checking her throat. Bruises started to form.

"Come on babe. Don't be like that. I wanna help you." Pony whispered while Jess and Soda argued. I nodded and placed my arm around he neck. He picked me up and took me to the kitchen. He sat me down on the table and looked in my eyes.

"You comin' Soda?" Pony said.

"Here." Soda said. He threw something to Pony.

"Can I... Can..." Pony mumbled to me nervously.

"Don't be scared Pony. She ain't gonna bite. Or do you want me to do it? And get closer to her than you?" Two Bit said with a smirk.

"Shut up Two and help her." Pony snapped, but moved, letting Two stand in his place.

"What are you gonna do?" I asked.

"Just gonna check ya." Two said.

He lifted my shirt up and placed his hands on my ribs. I winced at the touch but he kept going over the area. He grabbed a bandage and lifted my back up before wrapping it around me. He lied me down on the table, nodded and left.

"You know you could've helped me, Pony." I said, gently stepping down from the table. He looked off to the side.

"We're you too embarrassed?" I asked. He nodded slowly.

"Did you mean it, Carter?" He asked.

"Mean what?" I asked, playing with the collar of his shirt.

"That you'd marry me?" He asked. I froze and nodded.

"Do you ever get mad at me because I dream of Johnny?" I asked.

"No because he was your first love." Pony said.

"But I intend to be your last."
