(Y/n)'s P.O.V

I woke up early to leave for the next city. Even though he may not remember me, I'm not going to risk it. I grabbed my sleeping bag and as silently as I could I unzipped the tent door, closing just as silently. Both of my pokemon were asleep in my bag, I could hear their soft snores. I look around to see if I could spot any civilization, and luckily, I could. I walked for about 5 minutes and got into town, nothing was open due to the time. Well besides the Center. I went in and bought some more snacky foods, some bottled drinks and potions. Nothing really happened on the way to Striaton City. It was about midday when I got there. I saw Hilbert, Cheren and Bianca going towards a restaurant from what it looks like.

"Guys! Hey, hang on!" I shout, running to try and catch up to them.
"(Y/n)? Where were you? We looked everywhere for you!" Hilbert said, obviously concerned about me.
"Well not hard enough, I just went back to the Poke Center."
"We were just about to challenge the gym, you in?" Hilbert asked.
"Yeah, just let me heal up these two and I'll be out right away!" I ran into the Center and asked for a quick heal. Not 5 minutes later, I was out and on my way into the restaurant. Wait? Why is there a huge curtain here? There was a red curtain with a dark red flame symbol, and there were three buttons on the floor. Red, blue and green.
"What the bloody hell is this?" I thought out loud. I saw Hilbert talking to an older man, the gentleman gave Hilbert a bottle of water. 'How kind of him.' "Hilbert! What's this about?"
"Oh hey (Y/n), you know the weakness, right?"
"Grass beats water, water beats fire and fire beats grass. You want me to keep going?"
"No need, you could've just yes. The buttons are what type would be strong again the type on the curtains." Oh, so it's super simple! I step on the blue button and the curtains open up, to reveal a blue curtain.
I deadpanned. "There's more? What the hell!?"
"Enjoy! I'll be right behind you!" Hilbert cheerfully said.

I'm doing this gym for him!? I like him as a friend, but right now I just want to strangle him. A waiter came up to me and started a battle. He released a Lillipup, so I thought it would be fitting for my Lillipup to fight it. It was a scrap of tackles and bites, but in the end, it was my li'l Lillipup who came out on top. I looked at Lillipup proudly and praised him.
"Well done boy!"
'Thanks! Ya getting the confidence of a real trainer!' He barked at me. Going back to the task at hand, there was a blue curtain, so I stepped on the green button and the curtain opens to reveal another curtain but like last time, a waitress stopped me, and another battle began. She sent out a Patrat first, I let Zorua take this fight.

"Hey Zorua, use that attack from before the dark energy blast." Zorua understood, she gathered energy and released it into a powerful attack! Zorua seemed tired after using it but carried on with the fight, she eventually knocked out the Patrat. Unlike the last waiter she had two pokemon, it was a Purrloin. I left Zorua in, but I made sure that she wanted to. This was a fight for the top, Purrloin was losing so she decided to use a dirty tactic. She went for Zorua's neck, but since Zorua didn't want to get severely hurt she jumped back, letting Purrloin jump on Zorua's back. Zorua rolled on her back and did something unexpected, she jumped up and transformed into a Purrloin! "Zorua? Well then, even playing field now!" Zorua's illusion worked so well it fooled the waitress into thinking that Zorua turned into a Purrloin, when in all actuality Zorua was right behind the real Purrloin and used Scratch; it was a critical since the Purrloin was taken by surprise and feinted not long after. I praised Zorua for a job done fantastically. Hilbert soon rushed up to me and asked,
"Hey (Y/n), since when did Zorua know Dark Pulse?"
"Dark pulse? I didn't know that's what it was called... Cool!" I replied honestly.
"Well done on the illusions Zorua, those were purrrfect! Your Purrloin im-pur-sonation was pawsome!" Hilbert joked.
'Tell him I will scratch out his eyes if another Purrloin joke is made!' Zorua growled lowly in my ear.
"I don't know Zorua, I rather pur-fur you like thi- Ow! Did you just bite my ear?"
'No. More. Purrloin. Puns.'

I quickly dropped the subject not wanting my ear to be assaulted again. I looked ahead, I saw that the curtain was green. 'And finally fire beets grass!' I stepped on the red button and the final curtains were drawn revealing three men: One had blue hair, another had green and the last had red. They introduced themselves as Cress, Cilan and Chili. Hilbert was going to fight Cress since he chose Tepig as a starter, that left Cilan and Chili. I didn't have a normal fire, water or grass starter, so those two were left to decide who I was to fight. After a bit of disagreement, Cilan stepped forward and said. "I will be your opponent, now shall we?"

He sent out Lillipup, so I did the same. Both Lillipups starred at each other, daring the other to make the first move. They began to circle each other, until Cilan's Lillipup used Work Up. My Lillipup tackled the other to the ground, and continually used Take Down. My Lillipup was basically self-destructing to bring the opposition down, however Lillipup did something unexpected. Before the other Lillipup got an attack in that would faint my Lillipup, he used Protect. 'When did he learn that?' After the oppositions attack was deflected, my Lillipup followed up with a hard Bite, feinting the other pokemon.

Cilan sent out his other pokemon, Pansage. I swap out Lillipup for Zorua, thanking Lillipup for the incredible battle. Zorua was more than excited to offer another shake down. Zorua started off an illusion, faking a Double Team. Pansage was obviously confused on which was the real Zorua, and boy did Zorua abuse that confusion. She used Dark Pulse twice, both hitting Pansage directly in the back. Pansage was catching onto the theme, and always kept an eye behind him. Unfortunately for him, that left him wide open for frontal attacks. Round after round of Dark Pulses then frontal Fury Swipes, Pansage was feeling the pain. Almost as if to add salt to the wounds, Zorua let all of the illusions use Dark Pulse, attacking from all directions.

As soon as the battle was over all the illusions disappeared, and Zorua proudly puffed her chest up and walked over to my side. "Show off... Well done though, very impressive!" I praised, even if it was a bit over the top. I received the gym badge and waited for Hilberts battle to end, I ordered an oran and pecha berry pie while I waited, I let my mind wander. 'I wasn't given a pokedex, so I could just train and stop Team Plasma, but that could end horribly for me. That would be almost as bad as locking myself in a straitjacket... This might be harder than I originally thought, I got out alive, but I might not make it bac-' I was broken from my thoughts by a clean fork. I look down to see my plate move and Lillipup and Zorua eating my pie! "Hey! My pie!"
'Well ya weren't eating it, so we took it from ya. Don't let good food go to waste!' Lillipup yipped happily. 'Yes, eat my food I'll just buy a coffee cake.'
"Um... Cilan? Can I buy a coffee cake? My beloved pokemon have stolen my pie."
"Sure I'll get it for you, to go? Your friend just finished his battle."
"Please. Oh, and could you put the rest of the pie in a bag too? I'll never hear the end of it otherwise!" I turn to look at my pokemon, "Come on guys, we'll be leaving soon. The food will be coming with us." Cilan gave me the bags and bid me, Hilbert and our pokemon goodbye.

We just got outside, when a random doctor or professor shouted. "Hey there! I'm Fennel. Professor Juniper asked me to give you something. Please follow me!"
